Karnataka: Bommai blasts Congress govt over law & order collapse, alleges shielding of terror and drug networks

Former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai accused the Congress government of collapsing law and order, citing drug busts and terror links exposed by other states. He alleged the Siddaramaiah regime is shielding criminals and failing to protect citizens from narco-terror threats

In a powerful rebuke that has reignited debate over internal security in Karnataka, former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has unleashed a blistering attack on the Congress-led Siddaramaiah government, accusing it of complete administrative failure and alleging that it is actively shielding anti-national elements, drug cartels, and criminals operating with impunity in the state.

Speaking to a private news outlet in the national capital, Bommai raised serious concerns over the alarming breakdown of Karnataka’s law and order apparatus. He cited the recent bust of a massive drug racket worth Rs 394 crore in Mysuru not by Karnataka Police, but by Maharashtra’s Anti-Narcotics Bureau as a damning example of the Siddaramaiah government’s incompetence and the failure of the state’s intelligence department.

“What was the Karnataka Police doing when such a huge drug operation was underway within our borders?” Bommai questioned. “Our Home Minister shamelessly admitted that they had no information about this racket. This is not just failure it is negligence of the highest order.”

Further adding to the embarrassment of the state, Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) recently arrested a woman from Bengaluru linked to the Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). She was allegedly working on behalf of the terrorist group to recruit operatives and spread radical ideologies across India. Once again, Bommai highlighted that the arrest was made without any involvement from Karnataka’s own police or intelligence units.

“A terror recruiter was operating from our capital city and Gujarat ATS had to travel here and arrest her. What happened to our intelligence network? What is the Home Department doing?” Bommai demanded, alleging that the Congress government is more concerned about political optics than real threats to public safety.

In an especially stinging comment, Bommai accused the Congress regime of protecting “traitors,” stating, “This government has not just failed—it has lost all moral authority to rule. They are unable—or unwilling—to protect the people of Karnataka from drugs, crime, and terrorism.”

Bommai also lambasted Home Minister G. Parameshwara for attempting to deflect blame by threatening to suspend beat constables and inspectors. “Suspending junior officers is not a solution. This is a systemic collapse. Accountability lies with the Home Minister and the Chief Minister,” he asserted.

He warned that Karnataka is fast becoming a haven for narco-terrorist networks, thanks to what he described as the Congress government’s “dangerous mix of apathy, incompetence, and appeasement.”

The BJP leader’s remarks come amid growing unease over Karnataka’s internal security. In the past few months, the state has witnessed a spate of communal flare-ups, massive drug hauls, and now the shocking exposure of a terror recruitment cell operating in Bengaluru.

“The Congress government’s obsession with political correctness has paralysed the police force. Officers are demoralised, and criminals are emboldened,” Bommai said. “This is no longer just a governance issue. It is a matter of national security.”
