Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to roll out a major development package for his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on August 2, launching and laying the foundation stone for over 50 projects worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore. The mega event is expected to highlight the Modi government’s commitment to holistic development, with schemes spanning across infrastructure, education, healthcare, rural welfare, cultural preservation, and empowerment of farmers.

The Prime Minister will address a public gathering in Varanasi and inaugurate key road and rail infrastructure projects, including the widening of the Varanasi-Bhadohi road, development of the Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar road, and the opening of a new railway overbridge at Hardattpur aimed at decongesting the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura stretch.

Additionally, foundation stones will be laid for strategic road works in Dalmandi, Lahartara-Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur, along with two more overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard.

In a push towards energy efficiency and better urban management, PM Modi will launch the Rs 880-crore Smart Distribution Project, including underground electrification aimed at modernising Varanasi’s power infrastructure.

Preserving culture, Promoting tourism

In a significant move to bolster tourism and revive Varanasi’s cultural legacy, PM Modi will inaugurate the redevelopment of eight riverfront kuccha ghats, Kalika Dham, Rangildas Kutiya pond and ghat, and the sacred Durgakund area. Restoration efforts will also begin for the ancient Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple.

The government will also redevelop Munshi Premchand’s ancestral house in Lamahi, develop the heritage village of Karkhiyaon, home to many unsung freedom fighters, and upgrade museums and civic facilities in Sarnath, Rishi Mandvi, and Ramnagar zones. These efforts are expected to strengthen Varanasi’s position as a major religious, literary, and heritage tourism hub.

Environment and green urban transformation

In line with its green agenda, the Modi government will kickstart the development of a Miyawaki forest in Kanchanpur and beautify 21 city parks, including Shaheed Udyan. Restoration and cleaning of key historic water bodies such as Ramkund and Mandakini will also be initiated.

Boost to rural and educational infrastructure

Fulfilling his promise to improve rural water supply, PM Modi will inaugurate 47 rural drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, ensuring tap water access in remote villages of the district.

In the education sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the upgradation of 53 municipal schools and lay foundation stones for new academic infrastructure, including a modern district library and upgraded government high schools. The move is seen as a major boost to urban education in Varanasi.

World-class healthcare facilities unveiled

In a significant advancement for healthcare, the Prime Minister will inaugurate new robotic surgery and CT scan facilities at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. He will also lay the foundation stone for a new Homoeopathic College and Hospital, and inaugurate an Animal Birth Control Centre and Dog Care Facility.

Promoting sports and security

In his push for youth development and security enhancement, PM Modi will inaugurate a synthetic hockey turf at the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium, open a 300-capacity Multipurpose Hall at PAC Ramnagar, and dedicate new Quick Response Team (QRT) Barracks to the city.

Farmers at the heart of governance

In a landmark initiative for India’s farming community, PM Modi will release the 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme. Over Rs 20,500 crore will be directly credited into the bank accounts of more than 9.7 crore farmers across the country. This tranche will push the cumulative transfer under the scheme past Rs 3.90 lakh crore, reflecting the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to farmer welfare and income support.

Youth, culture, and social inclusion

To engage youth and promote creative expression, PM Modi will launch the registration portal for the upcoming Kashi Sansad Pratiyogita, which includes competitions in sketching, painting, photography, knowledge-based quizzes, sports, and career-building activities.

The event will also feature the distribution of over 7,400 assistive devices to Divyangjan and elderly beneficiaries, affirming the government’s focus on inclusivity and social justice.
