Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on July 29 conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts to assess the ongoing situation and ensure timely relief measures. Accompanying him were Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, and Special Relief Commissioner Dev Ranjan Kumar Singh.
Following the aerial review, the Chief Minister addressed the media at Lok Seva Bhavan, stating that 81 villages across 8 blocks in the three districts have been impacted by flooding. The affected blocks include Basta, Baliapal, Bhogarai, and Jaleswar in Baleshwar, Dhamnagar and Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak, and Jajpur and Dasharathpur in Jajpur.
The flood has affected more than 30,000 people, and 5,869 individuals have been evacuated to safer locations, the Chief Minister confirmed. He added that water levels in major rivers, including Subarnarekha and Jalka in Baleshwar, are steadily decreasing, and the flood situation is currently under control. While some other districts like Keonjhar also experienced flooding, no significant damage has been reported there.
Under the direction of the state government, extensive relief measures are being executed in the flood-affected areas. Dry food items and hot cooked meals are being distributed to those displaced or stranded. To facilitate this, free kitchens have been set up — 16 in Baleshwar, 10 in Bhadrak, and 3 in Jajpur — providing meals to nearly 10,000 people daily. This arrangement will continue for the next seven days, the CM announced.
