Operation Sindoor Debate in Parliament: Rajnath Singh calls mission legendary, denies external pressure or jet losses

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as “legendary” while initiating a 16-hour-long debate on the mission in the Lok Sabha. He asserted that Pakistan’s role in the Pahalgam terror attack was undeniable and that India’s swift military action hit its target within 22 minutes. “The operation was halted only after achieving its objective. Pakistan, frightened by the response, was ready for talks and effectively admitted defeat. Our fighter jets returned safely,” Singh stated, adding that Operation Sindoor is not over yet.

During his address, opposition members questioned whether any mediation had taken place. Responding firmly, Rajnath Singh said, “There was no external pressure. It is completely baseless and wrong to claim that Operation Sindoor was stopped due to any pressure.” He clarified that the operation was concluded only after all pre-defined political and military objectives were fulfilled.

Responding to opposition queries about aircraft losses, Singh stated unequivocally, “No Indian aircraft was shot down. None of our military bases were hit.”

He also dismissed former US President Donald Trump’s claim that India mediated to de-escalate the conflict with Pakistan. “There was no such mediation. India acted independently and decisively,” Singh said.

Calling it an operation that elevated India’s global standing, Rajnath Singh praised the armed forces for their precision and bravery. “The world has witnessed the strength and courage of our forces. We bow before their valour,” he said. He added that it wasn’t merely a military strike, it was a bold assertion of India’s national strength.

Singh revealed that nine terrorist camps were precisely destroyed, killing over 100 terrorists. Key headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, both backed by the Pakistani Army and ISI, were completely demolished. He noted that tourists were targeted in Pahalgam based on their religion, which prompted the strong retaliation. The mission began at 1:05 a.m. on May 7, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi closely coordinating the operation.

Pakistan responded using various systems, including drones, but India’s tri-services, Army, Air Force, and Navy, delivered a strong and integrated reply. Drawing a powerful analogy, Rajnath Singh said, “India acted like Hanuman did in Lanka.” He emphasised that modern warfare capabilities were deployed during the operation.

“This was a defensive action, not an act of provocation. It sent a clear message to the world: there can be no peace with terrorism,” Singh declared in conclusion.
