Bijapur: In another success for security forces in their ongoing campaign against Maoists, as many as four cadres of the banned Maoist group were gunned down in encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-hit Bastar division, officials said on July 26.
The security team has also recovered a huge quantity of weapons including sophisticated automatic rifles from the site of the encounter.
“Bodies of 4 Maoists recovered in an ongoing encounter between security forces and Maoists in Bijapur. A huge quantity of weapons, including INSAS and SLR rifles were also recovered from the spot,” said IG Bastar, P Sundarraj
The gunfight broke out under the jurisdiction of Basaguda police station of Bijapur, one of the worst Naxal affected districts in the state, leading to neutralisation of Maoists.
The operation was launched by a joint team of personnel from District Reserve Guard, Central Reserve Police Force [CRPF] and CoBRA, an elite unit of the CRPF.
Intermittent firing is said to be continuing at the site of the gunfight and more details about the encounter is still awaited.

Earlier, 3 cadres of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad [JJMP], a breakaway faction of the CPI[Maoist] were also neutralised in a joint operation of Jharkhand Jaguar and police in Gumla on Saturday morning.
The gun battle took place in the forest areas of Ghaghra police station of Gumla district. Two INSAS rifle along with an AK-47 was also seized from the spot.
Forces have amplified search operations in Naxal-affected areas which has led to major operational successes across states. The Union Government has announced a deadline to eliminate Maoism from Bharat by March next year.
