Bilaspur: Chhattisgarh police on July 20 booked a government school teacher for allegedly promoting illegal conversion related activities from her house.
Arundhati Sahu, a resident of Geetanjali city phase 2 was booked after one of her neighbour filed a written complaint with the police alleging her for promoting illegal conversion.
Sahu is reportedly employed as a government teacher in Swami Aatmanand School. Her son Saket was also named in the FIR registered by the police.
As per reports, a prayer ceremony (Prarthana Sabha) was organised at Sahu’s place in Geetanjali city phase 2 of Sarkanda area in Bilaspur on Sunday. The event was being attendant by 20-25 people.
Learning about the gathering, local Hindu activists soon gathered near Sahu’s house and staged a strong protest against the ongoing program.
The activists alleged that illegal conversion was being promoted in the said Prarthana Sabha. Upon receiving information, a police team then reached the spot and detained a few individuals.
The police on the basis of a complaint filed by one of the neighbour of Sahu registered a case against her under relevant sections of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita. The matter is being investigated by the police.
Cases related to promotion of conversion via Prarthana or Changai Sabha are keep popping up in the state, triggering strong protest from local Hindu activists.
The state government on the other hand has also promised to enact a stringent anti-conversion law against individuals promoting illegal conversion in the state.
