UP: VHP demands action against Ejaz for posing as Hindu Azad Singh to marry woman & forced her and daughter to convert

A woman from Prayagraj has accused her husband of engaging in an alleged case of love jihad, claiming he posed as a Hindu named Azad Singh to marry her, only to later reveal his real identity as Ejaz, a Muslim. She further alleged that he tried to forcibly convert her and their four-year-old daughter to Islam. The incident has led to a police case and protests by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP)

A woman from the Mauaima area in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has accused her husband of concealing his religious identity to marry her and later attempting to forcibly convert her and their four-year-old daughter to Islam. The incident came to light after she approached the police with her family, prompting protests from Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) members.

Met Through Social Media

According to the woman, she met the man in 2021 on social media. He introduced himself as Azad Singh, a Hindu from Kiranw village, and even showed her an Aadhaar card to support his claim. The two fell in love and eloped. Although her father filed a kidnapping complaint at the time, the police did not take action since both were adults.

She said that after the marriage, they moved to Chandigarh, where she discovered his real name was Ejaz and that he was Muslim. Shortly after, Ejaz left for Saudi Arabia to work as a driver, and she returned to her parents’ home. During that period, she gave birth to their daughter.

“I Was Never Hindu”: Ejaz

About 20 days ago, Ejaz returned from Saudi Arabia and met her again. She alleged that he admitted he was never Hindu and insisted she convert to Islam if she wished to stay with him. He allegedly renamed her ‘Ania Bano’, forced her to offer namaz, and threatened to kill her and their daughter if they didn’t convert. When she resisted, he assaulted her.

Distressed, she informed her family, who then took her to the local police station. VHP members also arrived at the station, demanding strict action. Police have since registered a case against Ejaz. Her father stated, “He deceived my daughter with a fake identity and is now threatening her life to force conversion.” The incident has led to protests in the area, with VHP urging authorities to take swift and strong legal action.
