This visit is part of his ongoing five-nation diplomatic tour and follows his engagements in Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.

Upon arrival at the Ezeiza International Airport, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome . This is PM Modi’s second visit to Argentina, having previously visited in 2018 to attend the G20 Summit. However, this marks the first bilateral visit at the head-of-government after 57 years, underscoring the significance of the occasion.

During the two-day visit, PM Modi will hold wide-ranging discussions with Argentine President Javier Milei. The agenda includes reviewing existing cooperation and exploring new opportunities to deepen the bilateral relationship across key strategic areas such as defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs noted, “The bilateral visit of the Prime Minister will further deepen the multifaceted strategic partnership between India and Argentina.” The ministry emphasized that the visit reflects India’s growing engagement with Latin America and its intent to enhance cooperation in mutually beneficial sectors.

Ahead of his departure from India, PM Modi described Argentina as a key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in multilateral forums like the G20. “We will focus on advancing our mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the areas of agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment,” he said.

PM Modi’s arrival in Buenos Aires came after the completion of his successful visit to Trinidad and Tobago, where he was conferred with the country’s highest civilian honour, ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’.He became the first foreign leader to receive this prestigious award. The award was presented to PM Modi for his influential global leadership, close ties with the Indian diaspora, and humanitarian contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic. During that leg of the tour, India and Trinidad and Tobago signed six agreements aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.

Following his engagements in Argentina, PM Modi will proceed to Brazil to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, followed by a state visit. The final stop of the five-nation tour will be in Namibia.

The Indian community in Buenos Aires extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister, highlighting the growing ties between India and Latin America, and the increasing visibility of India’s global diplomatic outreach.
