In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage among pro-Hindu groups, five Sri Ram Sene activists were allegedly tied to a tree, abused and brutally assaulted by local villagers in Ingali village of Hukkeri taluk, Belagavi district. The activists claim they were targeted and attacked for trying to protect cows from being illegally taken to slaughterhouses.
The disturbing incident unfolded on June 27, when a group of Sri Ram Sene activists intercepted a vehicle transporting cows they suspected were being smuggled to a slaughterhouse. Acting on their suspicion, the activists stopped the vehicle, rescued the cows and took the driver to the local police station, urging action against what they called illegal cattle trafficking.
However, the driver denied the allegations, insisting that the cows were meant for dairy farming, not slaughter. He accused the activists of threatening with false claims. Following this, the cows were shifted to a cow shelter (goshraya) in Ingali village.
But the matter didn’t end there. On the evening of June 28, Bapusa Multani, reportedly involved in transporting the cows, arrived at the shelter and secured the release of the cattle. When the activists learned of this, they went to the cow shelter, confronted Multani and followed him to his house to question him about the cows’ release.
This led to high drama and tensions in the locality. Enraged villagers, instead of holding the alleged smugglers accountable, turned against the activists. In a shocking act of vigilantism and mob violence, the villagers forcibly dragged the five Sri Ram Sene activists outside, tied them to a tree and thrashed them with sticks while hurling casteist and abusive language.
Videos of the incident, which have now gone viral, show the activists tied helplessly while being beaten and humiliated. Following widespread outrage on social media, Yamakanamaradi police took suo motu notice of the incident and registered a case against the attackers.
It’s not Siddaramaiah government; it’s Khan’s government, Sri Ram Sene fumes.
Reacting strongly, Sri Ram Sene Belagavi district president Vitthal Gaddi condemned the assault, calling it a direct attack on Hindu activists protecting cows — a religiously sensitive issue for many Hindus.
“This incident exposes the true face of the Siddaramaiah government — or rather the ‘Khan government’. When Hindu activists go to file a complaint, they are threatened with false cases and even threats of rape. Is this how cow protectors are treated in Karnataka? Those who tied and assaulted our activists must be arrested immediately and punished as per the law. If the police and government fail to act, we will launch massive protests across the state,” Gaddi warned.
