Raipur: Police in Chhattisgarh have intensified campaign against Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the state. In a fresh development, police on June 16 detained 10 suspected Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Raipur.
The suspected individuals were detained days after police arrested a Bangladeshi couple from Tikarapara area of the capital city. In continuation of the ongoing drive to identify and locate illegal immigrants, police on Monday detained 10 individuals including 4 women from separate localities.
The detained individuals are all suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals who reportedly entered Bharat through fraudulent means and were currently residing at rented accommodations in Raipur. They are currently being interrogated by the authorities.
Officials are also probing their (detainees) connections to other individuals or groups involved in facilitating illegal entry of infiltrators in Bharat. Their documents are also being seized and verified by the police.
Notably police on June 13 detained a Bangladeshi couple residing illegally in Bharat. Acting upon a tip-off, a police team raided and nabbed Md. Dilawar (49) along with his wife Praveen Begam (44) from Tikarapara area of Raipur.
The duo was picked up after the police received a tip-off related to a few Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Dharamnagar of Tikarapara.
The police have also seized fabricated documents including fake mark sheets and passport from the possession of the accused. The couple was residing illegally in the capital city for the last 15 years and was currently staying at a rented accommodation in Dharamnagar area
The police later booked both Dilawar and his wife under various sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Foreigners Act, Indian Passport Act 1967 and Passport Act 1920. The accused are currently being interrogated by the police.

Earlier in May police arrested a Bangladeshi couple and another Bangladeshi woman infiltrator from Supela of Bhilai. The couple identified as Md. Rasel Sheikh and Sahida Khatoon alias Jyoti was residing illegally after expiration of their visas, said officials. The other accused was identified as Panna Biwi, an original resident of Khulna district of Bangladesh.
According to the officials, the accused allegedly prepared fraudulent documents such as the Voter Cards, Aadhar Cards, Pan Cards and Bank Passbooks and misused them. They were also found to be in constant touch with their family members from Bangladesh over internet and WhatsApp call.
MHA directive to identify and deport illegal immigrants/infiltrators
It is noteworthy, that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in May issued directives to all the states and union territories to constitute Special Task Force (STF) in every district to identify and deport illegal immigrants.
According to the letter issued by the ministry, police are required to collect comprehensive details of suspected illegal immigrants/infiltrators and put them to designated holding centres.
The ministry in the letter has also instructed the states to record the biometric and demographic details of the nabbed individuals on the Foreigners Identification Portal upon confirmation of their status as illegal immigrant/infiltrator.
