Bengaluru: Jubilation turned into a heartbreaking tragedy as a massive stampede broke out outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 championship victory. As of now, at least 10 people have been confirmed dead, and over 40 others have sustained injuries. The death toll is feared to rise.

Preliminary reports reveal that thousands of fans had gathered outside the iconic stadium late on Tuesday evening to join in the celebrations following RCB’s historic title win. However, what was supposed to be a moment of glory quickly descended into chaos as crowd control efforts failed.

According to hospital authorities, six deaths were confirmed at Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar and four more fatalities were reported at Vaidehi Hospital on Mallya Road, where 15 injured individuals were brought in.

Given the scale and significance of the event, it was widely anticipated that large crowds would gather to take part in the celebrations. In this context, there appears to have been a serious shortfall in crowd management and security arrangements.

Union Minister Kumaraswamy expresses deep shock over the tragic loss of lives in the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium; urges the Karnataka government to accept responsibility and ensure accountability.

The Congress-led Karnataka government, despite having prior knowledge of the likely turnout, seems to have underestimated the need for comprehensive safety protocols.
