Guwahati: If anyone shouts ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in Assam, we will break their legs, ”CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said this referring to over 30 arrests in the state for supporting the Pahalgam attack. In a stern message during a panchayat election rally, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a sharp warning to individuals allegedly supporting Pakistan and glorifying terrorism in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam attack. The Chief Minister condemned pro-Pakistan slogans raised within Assam and declared a zero-tolerance approach toward such anti-national sentiments.
Addressing a public gathering, CM Sarma stated unequivocally that anyone found chanting slogans such as “Pakistan Zindabad” would face immediate and harsh consequences. “Pakistani terrorists entered and killed innocent civilians in Pahalgam. But what is shocking is that some people living among us are praising Pakistan. Over 30 such individuals have already been arrested. I want to make it clear – if anyone shouts ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in Assam, we will break their legs,” the Chief Minister warned, sparking a strong reaction from the audience.
CM Sarma further added that he has issued strict directions to the Assam Police to arrest anyone engaging in such activities without delay. He emphasised that national security and public sentiment will not be compromised under any circumstances.
Earlier, CM Sarma had also advocated the invocation of the National Security Act (NSA) against those showing support for Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. The call for severe action comes in the wake of the gruesome terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent people.
The Chief Minister’s bold remarks underscore the Assam government’s tough stance on internal threats and its commitment to preserving the state’s peace and unity amidst rising national security concerns.
