BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar blasted Congress and CPM leaders for their flawed approaches to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. He took aim at V.D. Satheesan, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, for his statement that it is up to the Union Government to ascertain who is behind the Pahalgam attack – whether it is a Pakistani terrorist from outside or any organisation within the country. According to Satheesan, it is not right to blame someone before that. He added that if certain individuals belonging to a particular religion resort to violence, there is no point in blaming the entire community.

CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan’s response was somewhat different: the Pahalgam attack, he claimed, proves the hollowness of the Union Home Minister’s assertion that peace has been restored in Kashmir and that the region has remained calm and quiet since the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the Modi regime has failed to rein in terrorism in the region.

Close on the heels of the ‘Big Brother’ CPM’s reaction, CPI state secretary also joined in to blame the Centre. He demanded an immediate inquiry into the alleged ‘security lapse’.

Newly elected CPM general secretary M.A. Baby also criticised the Union Government for the brutal killings. He stated that the abrogation of Article 370 is the reason behind the terror attack. He does not see ‘religion’ as a factor.

Why do Congress and CPM leaders like M.A. Baby, Robert Vadra, and V.D. Satheesan justify Pakistani terrorists?

BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar reiterated that neither the Union Government nor the BJP has named any religion as the culprit. On the contrary, the party and the government have consistently stated that it is a case of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. He questioned why Satheesan, Robert Vadra, and Baby are justifying the terrorists. He asserted that the government and BJP know how to handle the issue, adding that Satheesan would do well to mind his own business.

Meanwhile, K. Muraleedharan, former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president, former minister, and son of the late Congress veteran and four-time Chief Minister K. Karunakaran, contradicted V.D. Satheesan. He stated that the terror act was a conspiracy to divide people along religious lines. He added that the attackers reportedly asked the victims about their religion before killing them.

Once again, it appears that the CPM and Congress are performing a balancing act to ensure their apple carts of minority appeasement and vote-bank politics are not upset.
