VHP Telangana announces statewide protest against targeted violence on Hindus in West Bengal

“The WAQF law is being misused to target Hindus, and extremist elements operating in the border areas with Bangladesh are instigating unrest

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Telangana unit has strongly condemned the ongoing brutal violence against Hindus in West Bengal. In a statement issued on April 18, VHP demanded immediate protection for Hindus and called for the imposition of President’s Rule in the state, criticising the West Bengal government for indulging in vote bank politics.

“In protest against the heinous violence being unleashed on Hindus under the pretext of the WAQF Bill, the VHP will organise statewide demonstrations across Telangana on Saturday, April 19,” announced VHP Telangana President Shri Bhojanapalli Narasimha Murthy and National Spokesperson Dr Ravinuthala Shashidhar in a press release.

The organisation informed that protests will be held at all district headquarters, where memoranda will be submitted to District Collectors demanding central intervention. “We urge the Collectors to forward these representations to the Honourable President of India,” the statement read.

Calling on the Hindu community to participate in large numbers, VHP urged citizens to raise their voice against the “targeted and systematic violence” that Hindus are being subjected to. “The WAQF law is being misused to target Hindus, and extremist elements operating in the border areas with Bangladesh are instigating unrest,” they alleged.

Dr Shashidhar, speaking to Organiser, strongly criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership. “Mamata Banerjee and her party are making overtly anti-Hindu statements and deliberately downplaying the communal unrest in Muslim-dominated districts like Murshidabad, Malda, Nadia, and North and South 24 Parganas,” he said.

He further expressed concern over the silence of Muslim community leaders in Telangana. “It is alarming that leaders who otherwise speak out on issues in Gaza or Palestine are choosing to remain silent on the violence against Hindus in our own country. This hypocrisy and double standard must be exposed,” Dr Shashidhar stated.

“The country is being misled by this selective blindness. The time has come for the nation to demand clarity, justice, and equal accountability,” he concluded.

In light of the recent violence witnessed during similar protests in West Bengal, on April 16, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Telangana met Telangana DGP to review — and if necessary, revoke — the permission granted for the AIMIM protest.

A VHP delegation reminded the threats from Muslim extremist groups like Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Tablighi Jamaat that allegedly conspiring to attack Hindus under the guise of opposing the Waqf Board (Amendment) Act.

They pointed to the presence of suspicious elements in madrasas and mosques across the state and urged a ban on extremist-led protests. The VHP accused the Owaisi family of looting Waqf properties and inciting communal tensions, with AIMIM leaders allegedly fueling Muslim fanaticism.
