Seva Bharati Delhi is set to organise a marathon, “Run for a Girl Child,” on April 13 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi. This event aims to promote adolescent development and women’s empowerment and will feature participation from eminent personalities from Bollywood, business, sports, education, women’s empowerment, and the armed forces, along with women and girls from Seva Bharati.

Operating since 1979, Seva Bharati has been working in health, values, education, and self-reliance across 1,123 service settlements in Delhi through its dedicated team of volunteers.

Highlighting the objective of this initiative, Seva Bharati’s President, Ramesh Agarwal, stated,”While making India a developed nation, it is equally important to establish it as a global leader. Seva Bharti is committed to involving all sections of society in this effort. Through ‘Run for a Girl Child,’ we are bringing together underprivileged and privileged communities on a common platform to support women’s empowerment and adolescent development.”

Nidhi Ahuja, Seva Bharati’s Secretary and event coordinator, shared,”We are targeting youth, professional runners, and residents of Delhi’s service settlements. Additionally, we have extended invitations to philanthropic entrepreneurs from various business sectors in Delhi to participate in this event.” She also mentioned that Sewa Bharti Delhi has already established 132 adolescent development centres in Seva Bharati’s across the state. Our goal is to provide services to 100,000 adolescent girls and daughters through these centres. So far, cricketers Virender Sehwag and Shikhar Dhawan, Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and P T Usha have extended their support to this program.

Seva Bharati’s General Secretary, Sushil Gupta, emphasised that the organisation runs multiple projects in health, education, self-reliance, and women’s empowerment in Delhi with the support of intellectuals and philanthropic individuals from society.

The “Run for a Girl Child” event will commence at 5:00 am at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and will include the following race categories
10 km (Timed Run)
5 km (Fun Run)
3 km (Fun Run)

Over 5,000 participants are expected to take part in this initiative.

Inspired by the ideals of Balasaheb Deoras, Shri Vishnu began the first Balwadi centre in a Seva Bharati in Jahangirpuri, Delhi. Later, on October 2, 1979, Seva Bharati was officially established as a voluntary organisation dedicated to the field of service. Acting as a bridge, Seva Bharati focuses on uplifting and aiding communities. The ultimate aim is to empower even those receiving help (beneficiaries) to become helpers themselves, fostering a society where every individual lives with dignity and self-respect.

Seva Bharati operates in four main domains: Education, Health, Self-reliance, and Social Welfare
Education: Activities include running Balwadi centres, cultural and moral education for children, coaching classes, and Sevadham Vidyamandir, where 330 students from across the country are enrolled. Several schools and hostels are also managed under its initiatives.

Healthcare: Mobile and stationary dispensaries, two dialysis centres, radiology and pathology labs, leprosy shelters, and other medical services are provided.

Self-reliance: Various vocational courses like stitching, mehendi (henna application), beautician training, computer courses, street children projects, typing, arts and crafts, and fashion designing are conducted.

Social Welfare: Activities include community involvement programs like Kanya Pujan (girl child worship), Matrichhaya (maternal care), devotional singing groups, mass marriages, women’s meetings, storytelling, community rituals, and organising festivals and celebrations. These are predominantly managed by women’s committees.

In challenging circumstances, Seva Bharati embraces the principle of service as worship and actively participates in relief efforts across the country during any disaster. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of its volunteers worked tirelessly, providing ration distribution, cooked meals, medical assistance, elderly care, blood donation camps, aid to stranded individuals, and the distribution of milk, masks, medicines, and herbal remedies.

For over 46 years, Seva Bharati has been committed to the welfare of all, fostering progress and well-being for society.
