The holy city of Ayodhya is preparing for the much-awaited ‘Surya Tilak’ of Ram Lalla, scheduled to take place on April 6, 2025, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. The event, which symbolises Bhagwan Ram’s divine birth, attracts thousands of devotees from across the country every year. This time, a record turnout is expected as devotees are eager to witness the breathtaking moment when the sun’s rays form a tilak on Ram Lalla’s forehead at exactly noon.

The Surya Tilak is a unique and spiritually significant ritual celebrated annually on Ram Navami. It is believed to represent the divine blessing of the Sun God on the day of Bhagwan Ram’s birth. The spectacle is made possible through a meticulously designed optical setup involving lenses and mirrors placed strategically inside the Ram Mandir.

During the event, the sunlight first strikes a mirror positioned on the temple’s upper floor. The mirror reflects the sunlight toward a lens, which then focuses the ray onto Ram Lalla’s forehead, creating a spectacular tilak. The sight of the sunbeam illuminating Ram Lalla’s murti is considered a symbol of divine grace, making it an emotionally moving and spiritually enriching experience for the devotees.

With thousands of pilgrims expected to visit Ayodhya for Ram Lalla’s Surya Tilak, early travel planning is highly recommended. Train travel is considered the most practical and affordable option for those journeying from distant states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and the northeastern regions.

For devotees coming from nearby areas, buses or private vehicles are convenient choices. Since Ayodhya has become a major pilgrimage destination, booking travel tickets early will help avoid last-minute rush and price hikes. Additionally, those traveling by air can fly to Lucknow Airport, which is around 140 km from Ayodhya, and then continue by road.

Last year, the Surya Tilak was held on April 17, 2024, attracting a massive crowd of devotees. With the increasing popularity of the Ram Mandir following its grand inauguration, this year’s Ram Navami celebrations are expected to draw an even larger number of pilgrims.

To manage the large number of devotees, the temple administration is making extensive preparations. The temple premises will be adorned with flowers, rangoli, and traditional lamps, creating a festive and divine atmosphere. Tight security measures will be in place, including crowd control barriers and surveillance, to ensure the safety and convenience of the devotees.

Given the rising footfall in Ayodhya, pilgrims are advised to book their accommodation in advance. Several hotels, dharamshalas, and guesthouses in and around Ayodhya offer lodging facilities. The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has also made special arrangements to accommodate the large number of visitors.

To assist devotees, information kiosks, medical aid stations, and police assistance booths will be set up at key locations. Free drinking water and shaded rest areas will also be available to ensure a comfortable experience for pilgrims. The ‘Surya Tilak’ of Ram Lalla is not just a religious event but also a celestial marvel, blending science and spirituality. The sight of the sun’s golden rays forming a tilak on bhagwan Ram’s forehead is truly mesmerising and spiritually uplifting.
