A railway employee, Bhavani Singh in Bikaner was caught spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He is accused of sharing confidential military information with Pakistan. Intelligence officials have found that the accused was honey-trapped and several evidence of his involvement in anti-national activities have been found leading to his arrest. Officials are preparing a case to initiate legal proceedings against him. Authorities believe he was honey-trapped by a Pakistani woman under whose influence he was sharing sensitive information across border.
The accused Bhavani Singh is a railway employee working as a Point Man at Mahajan Station. Police detained him on the evening of February 27 along with an e-Mitra operator. After questioning the e-Mitra operator was released due to insufficient evidence.
What the intelligence officials found?
Intelligence officers revealed that Bhavani Singh’s activities were suspicious, and the team started keep a close watch on him. Upon confirmation and sufficient evidence, he was detained at Mahajan Railway Station and brought to Jaipur for questioning. During the interrogation process, significant information was revealed leading to his arrest.
DG Intelligence Sanjay Aggarwal stated that evidence support his involvement in anti-national activities. He reportedly sent confidential materials to Pakistan. When asked what material was sent and to whom, DG responded that Bhavani Singh’s actions were anti-national. A thorough investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In response to questioning an e-Mitra operator, intelligence officials mentioned that police frequently receive various pieces of information, which are verified through interrogations. If any discrepancies are found, appropriate action is taken.
The investigation also revealed that information related to Mahajan Field Firing Range, military personnel and various army supplies that were transported via the Mahajan Railway Station has been passed through WhatsApp messages and calls.
Bhavani Singh was honey-trapped by a woman and money. How he was trapped, what promises were made, how he was manipulated or blackmailed is yet to be investigated.
Spate of Honeytrap cases
It is pertinent to mention here that this is not the first case when someone was honey-trapped and made to involve in anti-national activities. As this area is a field firing range of the Indian Military and supply depot several military activities happen here on a daily basis. The Pakistani army has made several attempts to honey trap Indian men, where the Pakistani women frame and lure the Indian civilians by posing as news reporters. They apply several other forms of honey trapping. Last year a canteen owner in the Mahajan field firing range was found spying for ISI.
These miscreants are on an upsurge to make India destabilised through ISI and its terror activities. In March 2024, an employee of petroleum firm Halliburton Offshore Services Inc. Barmer Base was arrested for sending several classified information to Pakistan through social media. He made multiple calls on a daily basis from WhatsApp and sent his bank details to the contact numbers in Pakistan.
In February 2025, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with assistance from local police, arrested three individuals—Vethan Laxman Tandel and Akshay Ravi Naik from Uttar Kannada district, Karnataka, and Abhilash P.A. from Kochi, Kerala—in connection with an espionage case linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
These arrests were part of an investigation into the leakage of sensitive naval defense information concerning Indian naval establishments in Karwar and Kochi. The accused communicated with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives via social media platforms, sharing classified information in exchange for monetary compensation.
The case, initially registered by Andhra Pradesh’s Counterintelligence Cell in January 2021, was taken over by the NIA in June 2023. To date, eight individuals have been arrested, including key accused Pakistani national Meer Balaj Khan and Indian operative Akash Solanki.
In February 2024, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested 27-year-old Satyendra Siwal, a security assistant at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, for allegedly leaking classified documents to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Investigations revealed that Siwal, who was reportedly honey-trapped, transmitted approximately 250 sensitive documents, including details of joint military exercises between India and Russia, weapon decommissioning plans, and memorandums of understanding between public sector entities. In return, he received Rs 30 lakh, traced to his Indian bank account. Siwal’s interactions began with a woman claiming to be from Canada, leading to his involvement in the espionage activities.
In 2023, a senior scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), was arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive information to a Pakistani intelligence operative. Investigations revealed that Kurulkar had been in contact with a female Pakistani intelligence operative through WhatsApp messages, voice, and video calls.
In 2020, A 51-year-old resident of Gorakhpur was reportedly honey-trapped by ISI agents during his visit to Karachi. He was secretly filmed in a compromising position and later blackmailed into providing sensitive information about military installations in Gorakhpur, including the railway station, Indian Air Force station, and Kundra Ghat military station. The individual was also instructed to infiltrate WhatsApp groups of Indian soldiers.
In this case, the role of the Pakistani woman remains under investigation and requires a thorough probe. With a sharp rise in such honeytrap incidents, intelligence agencies are on high alert to thwart Pakistan’s sinister agenda.
