Bodh Gaya Marathon 2025 concludes successfully with Global Participation; third edition announced for 2026

The second edition of the Bodh Gaya Marathon 2025 concluded successfully with 2,000 participants from 20 countries, celebrating endurance, fitness, and global unity. The next edition is set for February 1, 2026, promising an even bigger event.

The second edition of the Bodh Gaya Marathon concluded on February 16, marking another milestone in its journey as one of India’s premier marathon events. With an overwhelming participation of 2,000 runners from 20 different countries and across India, the event celebrated endurance, sportsmanship, and spiritual unity on a global scale.

The marathon witnessed the esteemed presence of His Eminence the 13th Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche as the Chief Guest. Lt. Gen. Sukriti Singh Dahiya graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, while Mongolian Ambassador H.E. Ganbold Dambajav attended as the Special Guest. Several other dignitaries were also present, further elevating the significance of the event in promoting fitness, tourism, and global harmony in Bihar.

Race Categories and Prizes

The marathon featured four race categories, catering to professional athletes as well as fitness enthusiasts:

  • Full Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • 10 Km Timed Run
  • 5 Km Dhamma Run

A total cash prize of INR 6 lakhs was awarded to winners across categories. Additionally, the male and female champions of the Full Marathon received a return ticket to South Korea to participate in the Gijan Bada Marathon in Busan.

  • Full Marathon (Male): James Kipleting Korir
  • Full Marathon (Female): Genet Shikur Reshid
  • Half Marathon (Male): Prince Raj Yadav
  • Half Marathon (Female): Babli Verma
  • 10 Km Timed Run (Male): Vijay Kumar
  • 10 Km Timed Run (Female): Gunja Kumari
  • 5 Km Dhamma Run (Male): Shubham Yadav
  • 5 Km Dhamma Run (Female): Annu Pal

The Bodh Gaya Marathon is officially recognised by the Athletic Federation of India (AFI), and its race route is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), ensuring international standards for participants. The event was made possible with support from sponsors including Decathlon, Dalmiya Bazar, Free ka Paani, Dr at Home, Ballantino, Lawe, Big FM, and Procyon Technologies.

Third Edition Scheduled for 2026

Following the remarkable success of this year’s event, the Bodh Gaya Marathon Committee announced that the third edition will be held on February 1, 2026. Organisers have promised an even grander experience, further solidifying the marathon’s reputation in India and beyond.

Promoting fitness, tourism, and the teachings of Buddha, the Bodh Gaya Marathon continues to attract athletes and spiritual seekers alike. The event is organised by the Bodh Gaya Marathon Committee in association with IBC, ICCS, and the Maha Bodhi Society.
