The Kashi Tamil Sangamam, scheduled from February 16 to 24, will serve as a cultural bridge between North and South India during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. This third edition of the event will bring guests from South India to experience the magnificence of the Mahakumbh, advancing the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam is being organised to rekindle the historical and cultural bonds between Varanasi and Tamil Nadu, both of which were prominent centres of education and culture in ancient India. The event aims to foster unity in diversity, with a special focus on strengthening the deep connection between Kashi and Tamil Nadu. This year, the third edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam holds added significance as it coincides with two major events: the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj and the inauguration of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya.
The main celebrations of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam will be held in Varanasi, with delegates also being taken to Prayagraj for a holy dip at the Sangam and to Ayodhya for a visit to the Ram Mandir.
Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar announced that preparations for the event in Prayagraj are now complete, with activities scheduled to take place from February 16 to 24, 2025.
The guests of Kashi Tamil Sangamam will arrive at the Divya Kumbh Retreat Tent City in Sector 22 on February 16, where they will be warmly received. In the evening, a cultural program will be held at the Ahilyabai Holkar Stage in Sector 21 of Prayagraj.
On February 17, the delegates will take a holy dip at the Sangam, followed by visits to the Lete Hanuman Temple and Shankar Viman Mandapam. They will also explore the Digital Kumbh Exhibition before departing for Ayodhya in the evening. Each group will enjoy a two-day pilgrimage program at the Mahakumbh, offering a unique blend of cultural and spiritual experiences. This year, special emphasis will be placed on youth participation in the Kashi Tamil Sangamam. Over 4,000 people have participated in the previous two editions.
The administration expects over 1,000 delegates to join this year’s Kashi Tamil Sangamam. To encourage diverse participation, the event is organised into five categories: students, teachers, farmers and artisans, professionals and growing entrepreneurs, women, and researchers. Additionally, 200 Tamil students from central universities will visit Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya for local tours. These cities will host special programs that highlight the unique knowledge and cultural heritage of both regions. A key highlight of the event will be the Mahakumbh, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for all participants.
The third edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam will emphasise the contributions of Rishi Agastya, the founder of the Siddha system of Indian medicine and the first Tamil grammarian. Agastya was the royal guru to many Tamil kings, including those from the Chola and Pandya dynasties. The event will focus on the Siddha medical system, Classical Tamil literature, and Agastya’s significant role in strengthening the nation’s cultural unity.
