Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday, February 14 extended his greetings on the “Matra-Pitru Pujan Divas”.

“CM Sai has extended his heartfelt greetings to all the people of the state on Matr-Pitru Pujan Divas. In Bharatiya culture, parents are considered equal to Bhagwan, today is the day to express respect towards them,” reads a tweet of Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Office (CMO) quoting CM Sai.

pic.twitter.com/VBGNRXzvNr

Several other leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including state unit president Kiran Singh Deo also extended his greetings on the occasion. Celebrations were held at a number of schools in the state, marking respects towards the parents.

Notably in a significant step towards realising the cultural ethos of Sanatan Dharma, Chhattisgarh government on February 11 last year declared that the State government will celebrate February 14th every year as “Matra-Pitru Pujan Divas”.

The CM on the occasion had also interacted with the children and participated in the program. The decision holds significance as February 14 is widely celebrated as Valentine Day across Western countries.
