Real foreign interference: How USAID was directly disrupting politics in Bharat

For years, the West has accused foreign entities of meddling in democratic processes, but recent revelations expose how the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has been actively influencing politics in Bharat. Under the guise of development aid, USAID has been funding organizations, media networks, and NGOs that push narratives aligned with Western geopolitical interests, often at odds with India's sovereignty

Recent days have witnessed the unravelling of the Democrat cabal-run, US Deep State-funded international aid agency, USAID and its many ‘interests’ and assets in Bharat. From higher education institutions boasting of international standards – and global faculty – to digital media platforms subsisting on clandestine foreign funding because of dubious records, staff and editorial stand and from massively funded grassroots organisations to those promoting world peace while being fronts for international terror outfits, USAID has been the leader board of the international funding ecosystem. Until recently when the federal Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE decided to double down and started turning pages of their account books – only to find extreme mishandling of US taxpayer money to fund global regime change, political instability, the diversity-inclusion agenda, and leftist propaganda.

The most recent case in point is Bangladesh wherein the democratically elected Sheikh Hasina government was unceremoniously thrown out of power as part of an engineered coup d’état involving rioting students, members of the Bangladeshi civil society – one of whom was installed as the head of a dysfunctional interim arrangement – and military generals. But for timely help from Bharat, Ms Hasina would have faced the same fate as her father in 1975. It has been placed on record that Hasina fell afoul of the US Deep State due to her refusal to let them build a military base on St. Martin’s Islands in the Bay of Bengal, the major objective of which was to limit Bharat’s growing geopolitical, regional, and global stature.

Let us look at a few instances of what USAID was up to in India under the garb of international aid and funding. Between 2008 and 2024, $275.48 million worth of aid was dispensed to 54 Indian entities including non-governmental non-for-profits, media outlets, educational entities, and individuals. An overwhelming majority of those obligated to aid and funding from USAID are based out of New Delhi which probably explains why the left-liberal discourse remains firmly rooted in Delhi-based institutions, institutional offshoots, legacy media organizations and new media entities, family run institutions, and others. All of this has pretty much resulted in the elite narrative-setting that has controlled public discourse post-independence. As per recent revelations, USAID payments were made to ‘assets’ in New Delhi – via conduits – with the stated objective of destabilizing the Indian economy, ultimately targeting Prime Minister Modi and his government.

Some reports have quoted sources among the Democrats saying that the USAID is and always has been the primary source of funding for the influence peddling schemes and the indirect sources of income for hundreds of not-for-profits, media entities, and individual influencers. What is more, Sam Pitroda, the eponymous overseas chairman of the Congress Party and one of Rahul Gandhi’s principal advisors, runs an NGO called GKI which he co-founded with two women – one a former advisor to the US government and the other, the present vice president of the Rockefeller Foundation. The organisation is funded by – you guessed it – the Rockefeller Foundation, the US State Department and USAID! No points for guessing what the major thrust points of the NGO would be.

The OCCRP or the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project which claims to have investigative reporters stationed in over six continents has been receiving generous funds from its chief benefactor – George Soros – as well as USAID. According to France-based Mediapart, OCCRP is used by USAID to trigger sanction procedures and judicial probes. Said to be adept at launching investigations against all forms of corruption around the world, the OCCRP has never ever investigated the US government and is almost routinely ‘directed’ to look into foreign governments apparently hostile to American interests. Some of these unfortunate countries include Malta, Cyprus, Venezuela, and even Russia. OpIndia, way back in August 2023 and much before the current DOGE-propelled meltdown, had predicted that the OCCRP was planning a precision hitjob perhaps along the lines of the now-redundant American short seller ‘Hindenburg Research’. Rahul Gandhi routinely uses material published by the OCCRP to launch attacks against PM Modi and the Indian government. The allegations around the cancellation of a Covaxin order amounting to $324 million by Brazil and the Pegasus spyware could be linked to malicious reports published on the OCCRP website of which Mr Gandhi and his advisors are particularly fond.

The unmasking of USAID also raises serious questions over the veracity of the several international indexes which the Opposition takes recourse to quite regularly to malign Bharat, even on international platforms. Prominent among these are organizations like Concern Worldwide which publishes the Hunger Index, RSF which puts together the Press Freedom Report, and the USCIRF which brings out the Religious Freedom Report. Little wonder then that Bharat ranks quite low on all these indexes! Most of these agenda-pushing organisations have been quoted repeatedly by Rahul Gandhi and other members of the Opposition not once being diligent enough to check the veracity of the claims being made on many of these platforms.

Apparently then, the USAID enters countries on the name of health, education, women empowerment but eventually move on to spreading radical left ideology, funding political parties and concerns for regime change and media management. The funding to various organizations pushing LGBTQ and Dalit rights in India spiked with the coming to power of Joe Biden in the US. One such organization that ostensibly works in the areas of women empowerment and Dalit rights is Pradaan, headed by Vijay Mahajan, another close aide of the Gandhi family, CEO of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, and the chief architect of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Was the Yatra, therefore, indirectly or directly funded by the US Deep State? How is it that George Soros’ Open Society Foundation is closely linked to the US funding agency as well as everyone else directly or indirectly involved in the Bharat Jodo Yatra? Answering these critical questions might require further investigation and scrutiny but the drift of the matter has become quite clear. The enemies lie within. And have been fed and fattened by the US Deep State. One only wonders how things would have unfolded if USAID had been allowed to continue to ply its trade.
