Agartala: Border Security Force (BSF) men shot and wounded an intruder who was allegedly trying to enter Indian territory across the international boundary between Tripura and Bangladesh. The incident happened in the BOP Putia neighborhood of Sepahijala district on February 4 at approximately six o’clock in the evening.
Jawans on duty saw a man and a lady approaching the border fence from the Bangladesh side, according to a BSF official statement. The two allegedly disregarded the repeated warnings from the BSF men on duty. The intruders even got into a fight with a guard in spite of several warnings to desist. The BSF reported that one of the individuals even made an effort to snatch the jawan’s pump action gun (PAG). The jawan responded by firing one round in self-defense, in accordance with standard operating protocol. The statement further stated that the female suspect was able to flee into a nearby town, while the male suspect suffered minor injuries as a result.
After an inquiry, the intruder was determined to be Akhtar Jamal Roni, a resident of Putia village in Boxanagar block within the district of Sepahijala. According to BSF authorities, “he later admitted to crossing into India from Bangladesh without valid documents.” The injured intruder received quick medical attention from BSF soldiers. The BSF spokesman stated, “The matter is currently under investigation, and we have ensured that he received necessary assistance.” Local police also launched an operation to ensure that no other person along with the injured intruder entered Indian territory in Tripura side.
Meanwhile, in response to an unlawful infiltration attempt, Sri Bhumi police in Assam moved quickly to capture two Bangladeshi nationals, Muhammad Kauser and Muhida Bibi, before forcing them back across the border. The authorities continue to enforce security measures to prevent unlawful access and are vigilant against illegal crossings. Assam Police captured two illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators close to the Indo-Bangladesh border earlier on January 28 and made sure they immediately pushed back to the other side of the border.
