Bijapur: At least three security personnel were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Bijapur-Dantewada border area in Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday, February 4.
The incident occurred during a joint anti-Maoist operation launched in the forest area near inter-district border of Bijapur-Dantewada causing injuries to a jawan of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and two personnel of Districts Reserve Guard (DRG).
The IED planted by Maoists exploded after two personnel of the joint team accidently stepped upon it, causing an explosion. Two personnel sustained injuries in the blast while the third personnel got injured after he mistakenly stepped upon a spike-trap laid by the extremists.
Two of the injured personnel identified as CRPF constable Pramod Kumar (42) and DRG personnel Vijay Kumar (26) were later airlifted to Raipur where they are being treated at a private hospital. Another injured jawan is also being brought to Raipur for treatment.
On February 3, a joint team of security personnel gunned down an armed Maoist in an exchange of fire that broke out near inter-district border of Kanker-Narayanpur. An automatic weapon and other materials were also seized from the spot.
The operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of Maoists from the North Bastar-Maar division in the Kanker-Naryanapur border area. The gunfight broke out at around 12.30 in the afternoon, leading to neutralisation of a Maoist cadre.
“An encounter took place between the forces and the Maoists on Sunday after which body of a male Maoist was recovered from the spot. A SLR (Semi-Loading-Rifle) along with other materials was seized from the encounter site,” said kanker SP, Kalyan Elesela
