Jashpur: Chhattisgarh Police arrested an accused, Zameer Alam for abducting and raping a minor girl. The accused was nabbed from New Delhi, said police on Friday, January 17.

According to the police, the parents of the minor girl approached the Pathalgaon police with a complaint, alleging Alam, a resident of Korba district for abducting the minor when she was alone at home in June 2023.

The police after receiving the complaint launched an investigation into the case and had recently received some credible inputs about the location of the accused. On the basis of the human and technical inputs a police team then recovered the minor girl from New Delhi along nabbing the accused.

Initial interrogation in the case revealed that the girl was lured and forcibly taken to Delhi where she was raped by accused Alam. Relevant sections of IPC, BNS and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) were further added into the FIR and the accused was sent to judicial remand, said an official of the police privy to the development.

The Jashpur police on January 1 launched operation Muskaan to trace the missing minors under a special drive. As many as 13 minors have been so far recovered by the police under the said drive, he added.

Notably in a similar case reported on January 6, police had arrested an individual for allegedly luring an 18-year-old girl on pretext of marriage. The accused Ghulam Sarvar was nabbed near Ambikapur with the help of Surguja police.
