Bijapur: Cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) on Thursday, January 16 murdered a 48-years-old villager in Bijapur district, police said.
The terrifying incident took place in Hallur village under the Miratur police station limits of Bijapur on Thursday evening where a man identified as Sukku Hapka, was abducted from his home by extremists. He was later strangled to death on alleged charges of espionage.
A pamphlet alleging Sukka as an informer of the police was recovered from the spot in which the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of banned CPI (Maoist) has claimed responsibility of his murder.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and efforts are on to nab the accused involved in the crime.
A 35-year-old civilian identified as Dinesh Pujari was hacked to death with a sharp-edged weapon in Bijapur in October last year. A similar handwritten note claiming Pujari to be an informer was recovered from the spot. The responsibility of Pujari’s murder was claimed by the Pamed Area Committee of the outlaws.
In a similar incident, members of the banned outfit had also murdered a political worker in Usur block of Bijapur, on October 19. The deceased was identified as Tirupati Bhandari, a former vice village head (upsarpanch).
The incident took place when Bhandari had arrived at a shop in Usur where the Maoists attacked him with sharp edged weapon, leading to his death.
Significantly, more than 50 civilians were killed in targeted attacks carried out by Maoists in the violence-ridden areas of state in the year 2024, underscoring the grim reality of the pockets hit by insurgency and the grave threat faced by the civilians.
