Bengaluru: In a shocking incident miscreants have cut the udders of three cows in Chamarajapet in city triggered widespread condemnation and outrage. In a highly charged reaction to the incident of cow udder cutting in Chamarajpet on early Sunday, January 12 leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have expressed strong outrage and called on the state government to take stringent action against those responsible for the heinous act. The incident has sparked intense discussions surrounding cow protection and cultural sentiments in the region.
R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition, made a fervent statement while visiting Vinayaknagar in Chamarajpet— the site where the brutal act took place. He emphasised the sacred status of cows in Indian culture, stating, “The entire country considers cows sacred. Cow worship is an integral part of our traditions, especially during festivals like Sankranti(festival of harvest).” Ashoka specifically criticised the Congress government’s failure to act decisively, warning that if the authorities did not respond promptly and effectively to prosecute the culprits, the upcoming festival of Black Sankranti would be celebrated throughout the state as a protest.
Reflecting on the incident, Ashoka suggested that the Congress government had a history of negligence towards the safety of cows. He lamented that the new year had begun with a “gift of price hikes” from the government, which he likened to the “gift” of cow udder cutting during the Sankranti festivities.

He pointed out the deep-rooted connection the community has with cows, referring to a historical veterinary hospital in Chamarajpet that has been serving the area for centuries. Ashoka asserted that there were attempts to allocate this land to the Waqf Board, which resulted in community protests. He alleged that the shocking act of violence against the cows was a retaliation linked to those protests, expressing profound anger over the brutal cutting of the cows’ udders and the amputation of their legs using machetes and other sharp implements.
BJP state president BY Vijayendra took to social media to share his thoughts on the incident, saying, “Cow means the mother of all living beings.” He emphasized the reverence with which Hindus regard cows, likening the act of cow worship to honoring Kamadhenu, the divine cow in Hindu mythology. Vijayendra vehemently denounced the actions taken against the cows, describing them as “heinous and inhumane” and criticized the Congress government for its neglectful stance on cow safety since assuming power.

Highlighting the disconnect between the government and the sentiments of the Hindu community, Vijayendra added that the recent decisions made by the government—such as the closure of cow schools—were seen as attempts to appease those who do not respect these cultural values. He urged the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take immediate action before the public’s patience wanes further and to address the influences that underpin such violent acts.
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also joined the chorus of condemnation, expressing his dismay over the incident. In his comments on social media platform X, he said, “This act has deeply hurt all of us who worship the cow as a mother.” He criticised the government’s apparent lack of concern for the perpetrators of such brutal acts, particularly during the auspicious season of Makar Sankranti, an important festival for Hindus celebrating the harvest.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of this distressing incident, the BJP’s leaders continue to call for accountability and action, emphasizing the cultural and religious significance of cow protection in society. The unfolding situation highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding religious sentiments, community conflicts, and the political ramifications of cultural identity in Karnataka.
Sri Ram Sena calls for action
This despicable act has ignited heated discussions regarding animal rights and communal harmony, with some leaders branding it a demonstration of Islamic power. Prominent among those voicing their outrage is Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik, who has called on local minister Zameer Ahmed Khan to take immediate action against those responsible.
Speaking to the media in Dharwad, Muthalik underscored the deep cultural and religious significance of the cow to the Hindu community, stating, “The cow is not just an animal; it is a sacred symbol that provides us with food, fertilizer, and medicine. Additionally, it serves as the backbone of our farmers’ livelihoods. This is an affront not just to our way of life but to our very identity.”
He expressed strong discontent over the alleged inaction regarding cow slaughter in the state, blaming the Congress Party for what he terms “Muslim appeasement.” Despite existing laws prohibiting cow slaughter, Muthalik argues that violations continue unabated, demonstrating a disregard for local sentiments. He issued a stark warning: “If the scoundrels who committed this heinous act are not caught and punished, we will mobilize and fight back through the Sri Ram Sena.”
Muthalik’s remarks shed light on the broader implications of this act, linking it to perceived failures in governance and community safety. “If Zameer Ahmed has any dignity as a representative, he must act decisively against the perpetrators. If not, he will challenge us to take matters into our own hands,” he stated, further emphasizing the collective responsibility of leaders to protect the interests of their constituents.
The brutal treatment of the cows has sparked outrage among local Hindu populations, who view the incident as a grave injustice that must be addressed. “A man witnessing such cruelty cannot remain a passive observer,” Muthalik insisted. Asserting that the Minister is accountable to those who voted for him, he challenged Zameer Ahmed to arrest those responsible for this atrocity.
Local community organiser Tejashwi Gowda has also been vocal, reportedly present at the scene soon after the incident, demanding that police take swift action. The escalating tensions surrounding this issue illustrate how deeply cultural and religious sentiments can intersect with legal and political frameworks in contemporary India.
As this troubling situation unfolds, it raises critical questions about animal rights, communal relations, and the responsibilities of elected officials in upholding the law and serving their constituents. The focus now shifts to whether tangible action will be taken to address the anger and fear permeating the community following this horrific event.
Encounter miscreants, says former minister
MP Renukacharya, a former minister, has demanded that those responsible for the brutal act against cows be dealt with in an encounter. Speaking to reporters in Davanagere, he condemned the recent incident in Chamrajpet as inhumane, calling for a united stance against such acts regardless of political affiliations.
“The cows are revered as divine beings by our society,” he stated passionately. “This act was committed by fanatics with twisted minds, and it is a disgrace to Hinduism.”
Renukacharya specifically referenced the incident occurring in the constituency of Zameer Ahmed, asserting that the perpetrators are minority criminals and accused the entire Congress party of being complicit in the crisis. He expressed his outrage toward what he described as the display of arrogance by minority goons, calling for not only their arrest but also for them to be eliminated in an encounter.
He further warned that such malicious minds could invade our homes and pose a threat to our safety. “Have you turned this country into Pakistan or Bangladesh? Grant the police full authority to act. What are you, Home Minister, doing? Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar, are you aware of what is happening in this state? Do members of the Congress prioritize their self-interest over the welfare of the people?” he questioned.
Renukacharya criticised the Congress government, stating that there has been no progress during their tenure. “All they do is fight for positions. If Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, and Parameshwara do not take action against Zameer, it will reflect poorly on their integrity,” he warned.
The outcry over this incident continues to escalate, highlighting the sensitive intersection of animal rights, communal tensions, and political accountability in the region.
