Patna: In continuation of its counter-insurgency campaign, Bihar police in a joint operation with Seema Surakhs Bal (SSB) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered a significant quantity of explosive materials from a Maoist’s hideout in Gaya, police said on Wednesday, January 8.
A joint team was formed and subsequently dispatched to Tarchuwa forest area under Chhakarbandha police station limits, after the police received credible intel about explosive materials being stored in the area by the Maoists.
The joint team launched an extensive search operation in the aforesaid locality and recovered huge quantity of explosive materials from a cave, informed police in an official statement issued on Wednesday’s evening.

10 steel containers and pressure cookers each weighing 10 kg, 60 pieces of aluminum foil, 84 pieces of small size steel containers, 24 bundles of flexible wire, 186 pieces of iron conical pipe sockets, 5 packets of methyle parathion polytox along with other materials were seized during the operation. The materials seized by the team were stored for the purpose of explosive making.
A case under section 148/149 of BNS, section 3/4 of Explosive Act and section 16/18/20 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) has been registered at Chhakarbandha police station. Further investigation into the case is being carried out.
The police along with the security forces have amplified their operation against the Maoists in the state lately, nabbing over 120 Maoist cadres in the year 2024 alone.
As many as two dozen weapons along 150 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were seized by the police from the possession of the Maoists in the contemporary period. The recovery also includes 554 detonators, 146 kg of explosives and over 2400 cartridges.
According to the police, as many as 11 forward operating bases (FOB) have been established in the remote violence-hit areas of the state, providing security cover to the residents of far fledged areas, earlier dominated by the extremists.
Notably only a handful of districts adjoining the southern borders of the state stands partially affected by the Maoist insurgency at present, marking a significant drop from 22 districts marred by red terror around a decade ago.
