PATNA: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government in Bihar is all set to establish a “Bihar Natya Vidyalaya” (Bihar School of Drama) on lines of the National School of Drama (NSD).

Announcing the move on social media platform recently, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Deputy Chief Minister of the State said that “a proposal will soon be brought to the cabinet for the construction of the school.”

The minister further announced that the school will function under the ‘Art Youth and Culture Department’ of the State where the students will be able to take up ‘Natya’ related studies.

“Students will be able to take studies and training related to the dramatic genre on the lines of National School of Drama”, added the Deputy Chief Minister.

The upcoming institute will offer professional courses including a degree at the graduate level along a two year diploma enabling professional advancement of students in the field of drama.

Significantly, the State is home to many prominent actors of the film industry including the likes of Manoj Vajpayee and Pankaj Tripathi. Other than Vajpayee and Tripathi, Sushant Singh Rajput was another prominent name in the industry from the State. It is being expected that the government’s move will pave way for more such talents to emerge from the State in future.

It is worth mentioning here that the incumbent State Government led by Kumar has been focusing extensively on the development of various infrastructure projects including of sports and education in Bihar once identified with its poor infrastructure.

Recently, the State also hosted its first ever international hockey tournament (Women’s Asian Champions Trophy) in November this year. The prestigious tournament was held at the newly-built ‘Rajgir Sports Complex’ in Bihar’s Nalanda district. Significantly, the State is also preparing to host the ‘Khelo India Youth Games 2025’.

Lauding the efforts of the State Government, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya had earlier informed that “Sports are being encouraged in Bihar and the government has also started developing sports infrastructure in line with the Khelo India campaign.

“The Khelo India Youth Games 2025 is going to happen in Bihar. The State has already started preparing for it,” added the Union Minister while interacting with the media in November this year.
