RANCHI: In a significant crackdown against Maoists, Jharkhand police on Monday October 28 nabbed three active cadres of the Tritiya Prastuti Sammelan Committee (T.S.P.C), a splinter group of the proscribed CPI (Maoist).

The operation was launched following the Palamu police received intel about Maoist’s movement in the Karimati forest area. A joint team was then dispatched towards the location, resulting in arrest of three individuals. The trio were reportedly planning to expand the footprints of the T.S.P.C in the area.

The arrested accused have been identified as Shravan Oraon alias Hemant (26), a resident of Bihar’s Rohtas district, Prem Ganjhu alias Saagar (24), a resident of Balumath of Latehar district, and Shantu Kumar alias Shailendra, a resident of Kunda police station limits of Chatra district of Jharkhand.

Those nabbed during the operation are associated with the Akraman Ganjhu gang and a couple of receipt of the T.S.P.C group was recovered from them, said police in an official release issued on Tuesday, October 29.

An AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, a country-made pistol, a country-made gun and 79 live cartridges of 7.62 mm were also seized from the possession of the accused, added the release.

Notably, the operation was launched a day after a joint team of Security Forces unearthed and seized a rifle along with live cartridges from Jardeva Pahadi area near Jamalpur village under Hussainabad police station limits of Palamu on Sunday, October 27.

State assembly polls are scheduled to be held in Jharkhand on 13 and 20 of next month, with results for the 81-seat state assembly set to be announced on November 23.

It is noteworthy that the state of Jharkhand stands affected by Red Terrorism since long and it was only in the recent few years that the security forces have managed to push back and confine the Maoists in a limited area of a few districts.

As per the updated list shared by the Union Home Ministry a total of five districts namely Giridih, Gumla, Latehar, Lohardaga, and West Singhbhum stands affected by the Maoist terror in the year 2024 as compare to the 16 districts which had presence of several Maoist group such as the CPI (Maoist), People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and T.S.P.C in the year 2019.

Moreover, West Singhbhum is the only district cateogrised under the 12 highly Maoist-affected district in the country while the rest of the districts are placed under the ‘district of concern’ category. It is noteworthy that the Union Home Minister has recently announced a deadline to wipe out the Maoist insurgency from the country before March 2026.
