Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the government-owned telecommunications giant, has entered a new phase of its journey, unveiling a fresh and dynamic brand identity. The Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, introduced BSNL’s new logo and seven revolutionary services aimed at enhancing India’s digital connectivity. This marks a significant shift from the earlier slogan “Connecting India” to the more inclusive and regionalised “Connecting Bharat,” symbolising BSNL’s mission to ensure that every citizen, urban or rural, enjoys secure and affordable telecom services.

The ceremony took place at Bharat Sanchar Bhavan in the presence of high-ranking officials, including Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, and key representatives from BSNL, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), and partner organisations like CDoT, ITI, and TCIL. The unveiling of the logo and services emphasises BSNL’s commitment to evolving with the times while staying true to its core mission: serving the nation through reliable and accessible telecommunications.

The new BSNL logo: A symbol of strength and reach

The revamped logo is not just a new design, but a reflection of BSNL’s vision and renewed energy. The green and white arrows circling the nation underscore BSNL’s comprehensive nationwide presence, highlighting its reach even in remote and difficult terrains. The vibrant saffron backdrop conveys warmth, trust, and inclusivity — values that BSNL seeks to embody. The tagline “Connecting Bharat” now serves as a reminder of BSNL’s deep-rooted commitment to bridging the digital divide between urban hubs and the remotest parts of the country.

In his speech, Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted that the logo symbolises the next phase of BSNL’s journey, where it takes the lead in delivering technological innovation to Bharat. The change in identity from “Connecting India” to “Connecting Bharat” is a move toward better reflecting BSNL’s core focus on ensuring connectivity for all citizens, regardless of geographic or economic challenges.

Seven pioneering services for a new Digital Age

In tandem with the unveiling of its new identity, BSNL also launched seven innovative services designed to provide secure, affordable, and reliable connectivity to all. These services are built on three foundational pillars — security, affordability, and reliability — and cater to a wide spectrum of needs, from urban tech enthusiasts to rural users in areas with limited connectivity. These services mark a significant step forward for BSNL in its quest to be a leader in India’s telecom industry.

1. Spam-Free Network: Enhancing communication security

Spam messages, phishing attempts, and malicious content have become rampant in today’s digital world. To tackle this challenge, BSNL has developed a cutting-edge spam-blocking solution that automatically filters out unsolicited and harmful communications without needing to alert users. This not only prevents phishing scams but also enhances the overall security of BSNL’s communication network. Users can now enjoy seamless, safe, and secure communication, free from the distractions and dangers of spam.

2. BSNL national Wi-Fi roaming: Expanding affordable internet access

BSNL is launching an industry-first, seamless Wi-Fi roaming service for its FTTH (fiber to the home) customers. This service allows users to access high-speed internet at any BSNL Wi-Fi hotspot across the country without additional charges. By minimising data costs for users, this service is especially valuable for those who travel frequently and need reliable internet access without the burden of exorbitant data fees. With this initiative, BSNL strengthens its position as a leader in affordable internet connectivity.

3. BSNL IFTV: India’s first fiber-based Intranet TV

In a major leap forward for home entertainment, BSNL introduced India’s first fiber-based intranet TV service, known as BSNL IFTV. This service offers users access to over 500 live channels and Pay TV options through BSNL’s FTTH network. The key feature of this service is that it does not consume the data from the user’s FTTH pack, ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted viewing experience. Subscribers can now enjoy live television at no extra charge, reinforcing BSNL’s commitment to providing value-added services to its customers.

4. Any Time SIM (ATS) Kiosks: Revolutionising SIM management

BSNL’s Any Time SIM (ATS) kiosks provide a truly innovative solution for SIM card management. These automated kiosks, available 24/7, allow users to purchase, upgrade, port, or replace SIM cards instantly. The kiosks are UPI/QR-enabled for easy payments, and feature seamless KYC (Know Your Customer) integration, making the process hassle-free. What’s more, they offer multi-lingual support, ensuring accessibility for a diverse range of users across the country. This service is the first of its kind in India, bringing unparalleled convenience to telecom users.

5. Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity: Ensuring network reliability in emergencies

In a breakthrough for reliable network access, BSNL’s Direct-to-Device (D2D) service converges satellite and terrestrial mobile networks to deliver seamless connectivity, even in the most remote and isolated regions. This innovative technology is particularly useful in emergencies, ensuring that users can stay connected in disaster-stricken areas where traditional telecom infrastructure might fail. Moreover, this service enables UPI payments in such regions, providing vital financial services in areas where access is typically limited.

6. Public Protection & Disaster Relief (PPDR): Strengthening national disaster response

In its first-of-its-kind initiative in India, BSNL has introduced a scalable and secure network for disaster response under the PPDR initiative. This network ensures guaranteed encrypted communication for government agencies and relief organisations during crises, improving national disaster management efforts. With a robust design, the network ensures uninterrupted connectivity during natural disasters and other emergencies. BSNL also employs innovative solutions like drone-based and balloon-based systems to extend coverage in disaster-affected areas.

7. Private 5G for Mines: Revolutionising industrial connectivity

BSNL, in collaboration with C-DAC, has launched India’s first private 5G network designed specifically for mining operations. This service provides low-latency, high-speed 5G connectivity in underground mines and large opencast mines, where reliable communication is critical. Leveraging advanced AI and IoT applications, this service enables real-time remote control of autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), safety analytics, fleet optimization, and AR-enabled maintenance in mining operations. This marks a significant leap in the use of 5G technology for industrial applications in Bharat.

BSNL’s 5G Vision: Paving the Way for India’s Technological Future

Jyotiraditya Scindia, in his address, shared BSNL’s ambitious plans for the roll-out of 5G services across the nation. Successful trials have already been conducted for Indigenous 5G RAN (Radio Access Network) and Core in the 3.6 GHz and 700 MHz bands, and BSNL aims to deploy 5G services soon. Out of the 100,000 planned BSNL 4G sites, many will be upgraded to 5G by mid-2025. This initiative is part of India’s broader push to establish a robust, indigenous 5G ecosystem that can compete on the global stage.

“BSNL is not just keeping up with technology, it is now leading the charge, setting benchmarks in telecom innovation,” said Jyotiraditya Scindia. He praised the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in transforming BSNL from a follower to a leader in the telecommunications industry. “The launch of the new logo and these citizen-centric services is a testament to that transformation,” he added.

With the unveiling of its new logo and the introduction of seven innovative services, BSNL is charting a course for the future of digital connectivity in Bharat. By focusing on security, affordability, and reliability, BSNL is ensuring that even the most remote areas of the country will have access to world-class telecom services. This new phase in BSNL’s journey is not just about technological upgrades — it is about connecting the hearts and minds of Bharat’s citizens, ensuring that everyone, everywhere, is part of India’s digital future.
