KALBURGI: In a tragic turn of events, an 11-year-old boy, Narendra, was murdered by his mother’s lover in Kakalawara village, Gurumathkal Taluk in Kalburgi district. The boy’s murder, which occurred on September 30, was rooted in an illicit affair between his mother, Govindamma, and a local shopkeeper, Abdul Nabi.

The brutal crime took place when Abdul Nabi, angered by the boy’s presence and his lover’s refusal to elope with him, lured young Narendra with chocolate and later strangled him to death in a cowshed.

Govindamma, a widow after her husband Mahalingappa’s suicide in 2017, had been in an affair with Abdul Nabi, a shopkeeper from the same village. Reports suggest that her husband ended his life due to his wife’s extramarital relationship, which had plagued their marriage.

Abdul Nabi, eager to marry Govindamma, had repeatedly proposed to her. However, Govindamma consistently refused, citing her son Narendra as the reason for not accepting his marriage proposal. Feeling that the boy was a hindrance to their future together, Abdul hatched a sinister plan to eliminate the child.

On September 30, Abdul convinced Narendra to accompany him to his shop under the guise of giving him chocolate. tHE Abdul had a darker plan. Surveillance footage from a nearby CCTV camera captured Abdul leading Narendra to his store, providing key evidence in the case. After giving Narendra the treat, Abdul took him to a nearby cowshed where he strangled the young boy to death.

When Govindamma found her son missing, she lodged a complaint with the Gurmatkal Police Station, initially reporting his disappearance. The police launched an investigation, and Abdul’s behaviour raised suspicion. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, the authorities uncovered the chilling events leading to Narendra’s death.

Following the CCTV footage, the Gurmatkal Police apprehended Abdul Nabi and questioned him regarding his involvement in the boy’s disappearance. During the interrogation, Abdul confessed to the murder, revealing that his anger stemmed from Govindamma’s refusal to marry him. He admitted that he believed Narendra’s death would clear the way for their relationship.

Abdul has since been taken into custody and charged with murder. The District Superintendent of Police (SP) G. Sangeeta visited the crime scene with her team and commended the investigative efforts that led to Abdul’s arrest. The SP stated that the case is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illicit affairs and how they can lead to devastating consequences.

The murder has sent shockwaves through Kakalawara village and the surrounding area. Residents are grappling with the horrific nature of the crime, especially since it involved someone familiar to the community. The fact that a trusted local shopkeeper could commit such a heinous act has left villagers in disbelief and anger.

As the investigation continues, Abdul Nabi remains in police custody. The police have assured the public that justice will be served and that all legal measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the community. A detailed chargesheet is expected to be filed in the coming weeks, and Abdul faces life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted of the crime.

Govindamma, meanwhile, is left to grieve the loss of her son, a victim of her lover’s deadly obsession.
