Thiruvananthapuram: In a recent statement, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Uttar Kerala Pranth Karyavah PN Eashwaran announced that the organisation would pursue legal action against defamatory remarks made about them both in the legislative assembly and in public discourse. The announcement comes amid claims that RSS was responsible for disrupting the cherished Thrissur Pooram festival.
Eashwaran emphasised that the RSS is not interested in becoming embroiled in unnecessary controversies, asserting that the organisation has been unfairly dragged into political disputes with malicious intent. “It is deplorable that responsible officials, including ministers and MLAs, insinuate that RSS was behind the disruption of the Pooram. Such allegations are both reprehensible and condemnable,” he stated, demanding evidence to support these claims.
The accusations levied against RSS are viewed by Eashwaran as part of a larger, orchestrated effort to sow discord and tension around cultural events that hold significant importance in Kerala, such as Thrissur Pooram and the Sabarimala pilgrimage. He pointed out that these allegations undermine the true spirit of Kerala’s rich heritage and communal harmony.
In response to the ongoing animosity, RSS representatives are expected to meet with both the State Governor and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to address the issue. Eashwaran reiterated that the persistent misuse of the RSS name by political leaders for their own interests should not be tolerated.
R.V. Babu, state president of the Sangh-inspired Hindu Aikyavedi, joined in condemning allegations from both the ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). He insisted that the legislative assembly should not be used as a platform for anti-RSS rhetoric, as the organization does not have a presence in the assembly to defend itself against such claims.
