BENGALURU: In a major development, an FIR has been registered against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife Parvathy at the Mysore Lokayukta station in connection with an alleged land allotment scam involving the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The FIR comes in the wake of court orders directing a Lokayukta investigation into allegations of illegal land allocation to the Chief Minister’s family.
The case revolves around claims that 14 plots were unlawfully allotted to Parvathy Siddaramaiah by MUDA, with the court mandating an investigation to be completed within three months. In compliance with the court’s order, the Lokayukta police have now formally registered an FIR against the Chief Minister, placing him and his family at the centre of a high-profile legal battle that could have far-reaching political consequences.
According to the FIR, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is named as the primary accused (A1), followed by his wife Parvathy (A2), his brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy (A3), and Devaraju (A4), the individual who allegedly facilitated the land transactions. The charges against the accused have been filed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 120B (criminal conspiracy), 166 (public servant disobeying law), 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 420 (cheating), 426 (mischief), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 340 (perjury), and 351 (assault or criminal force). In addition, the FIR includes charges under the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act, 2011, further intensifying the legal challenges facing the Chief Minister.
This case has raised serious questions about potential misuse of power, as Siddaramaiah is accused of having unduly influenced the land allotment process during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister (DCM), benefiting his family at the cost of public interest. The allegations claim that the CM violated the trust of the people, misused his position, and caused a significant financial loss to the state exchequer by facilitating illegal denotification of government land.
The complaint that triggered the investigation was initially filed by social activist Snehmayi Krishna, along with co-complainants TJ Abraham and others. They alleged that Siddaramaiah had illegally influenced the allocation of land for his family’s benefit, going so far as to claim that he violated his oath of office to gain personal advantage. The complainants have argued that the land denotification orchestrated by Siddaramaiah during his time as DCM led to substantial losses for the state treasury, while his family gained significantly through these illicit allotments.
In response to these complaints, the Governor of Karnataka had earlier issued a prosecution notice against CM Siddaramaiah. However, Siddaramaiah moved to quash the notice by filing a petition in the High Court. The High Court, however, rejected his petition and upheld the Governor’s decision, allowing the case to proceed in lower courts.
As the legal proceedings advanced, the Special Court for People’s Representatives ordered a Lokayukta probe into the alleged MUDA scam, directing the police to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report within three months. In accordance with the court’s directive, Mysore Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Udesh officially registered the FIR against Siddaramaiah and the other accused.

In a significant twist, complainant Snehmayi Krishna has on Friday, September 27 petitioned the High Court, seeking to transfer the MUDA scam investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Krishna cited concerns over the potential influence Siddaramaiah could exert over the Lokayukta investigation given his powerful position as Chief Minister. According to Krishna, an independent and impartial investigation is critical to ensure a fair outcome, and she believes that only an external agency like the CBI can conduct such an inquiry without political interference.
Krishna’s petition is expected to be heard by the High Court in the coming days. Should the court approve the request for a CBI investigation, it would mark a significant escalation in the case and could pose further challenges for Siddaramaiah, both legally and politically.
The FIR against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has intensified political opposition, with BJP JDS demanding his resignation and a full-scale inquiry into his alleged involvement in the MUDA land scam. The opposition BJP has seized on the opportunity to attack the Chief Minister, accusing him of misusing his office for personal gain and calling for greater transparency and accountability.
In response, Siddaramaiah’s supporters have defended him, arguing that the allegations are politically motivated and that the Chief Minister has always acted in the best interest of the state. Nevertheless, the filing of the FIR and the demand for a CBI investigation have placed the CM under increased scrutiny, and the outcome of the High Court’s decision on the petition could have significant ramifications for his political career.
This development poses a critical test for Siddaramaiah’s leadership, coming at a time when his government is already facing mounting public and political pressure. The allegations of corruption and misuse of power could tarnish his administration’s image, especially as the CM prepares for key electoral battles in the near future.
Moreover, the filing of the FIR raises questions about the extent of Siddaramaiah’s influence over the ongoing investigation. The Siddaramaiah s government has recently taken steps to curtail the CBI’s powers within Karnataka, a move that has been viewed with suspicion by opposition leaders and anti-corruption activists. If the High Court rules in favor of a CBI investigation, it could complicate Siddaramaiah’s efforts to contain the fallout from the scandal and undermine his authority.
The FIR filed against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA land allotment scam has opened a new chapter in what is shaping up to be a major political and legal controversy. With growing calls for a CBI investigation and mounting public scrutiny, Siddaramaiah finds himself at a critical juncture. The outcome of the ongoing legal battles will not only impact his political future but also serve as a test of the transparency and integrity of the state’s governance. As the case moves forward, the people of Karnataka await the High Court’s decision, which could set the tone for the future of this high-stakes investigation.
