Agartala: District and Sessions Judge Angshuman Debbarma of the North Tripura district sentenced Kailashahar resident Hamid Ali, 70, to 20 years in prison and a fine of Rs 20,000 for the rape of a juvenile girl in violation of Section 376 of the AB Act. Section 6 of the POCSO Act imposed an additional 20-year sentence on Ali along with a Rs 20,000 fine. On June 4, 2023, in Sakaibari Ward No. 6, Ali enticed a six-year-old girl into the forest as she was observing the disposal of soil. Sub-Inspector Sanchita Nath assisted the officer at the Women’s police station in leading the inquiry, which was finished in less than a month after the incident was promptly reported.
During the trial, sixteen witnesses gave testimony, which led to Ali’s guilt. “The seriousness of the offence and the evidence presented left no room for leniency,” Judge Debbarma said. In addition, the court ordered that failure to pay the penalty result in an extra six months behind bars. The case’s prosecutor, government attorney Sudarshan Sharma, expressed delight with the decision and emphasised the need for justice for the victim and her family.
On the other hand, a man convicted of raping a minor child in Assam’s Karimganj has been sentenced to 20 years of regorious imprisonment. The Sessions Court rendered its decision on August 14. In accordance with pertinent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Shahidul Alom, the accused, was found guilty. The crime happened in December 2021 in Solamona Village, which is under the Bazaricherra Police Station’s jurisdiction.
The Public Prosecutor claims that Alom tricked the young girl into coming to his house as she was heading to her garden to harvest vegetables. He assaulted her sexually once inside. After the child’s family members saved her, they quickly filed a police report at the Bazaricherra Police Station. Alom was found guilty after the police submitted a charge sheet against him after a careful investigation. The court fined him Rs 15,000 and gave him a 20-year prison sentence. Alom faces an extra year in prison if the debt is not paid. The victim’s family was pleased with the ruling, and the locals have praised it in the hopes that it will discourage crimes against women and children.
