Guwahati: Through India’s Northeastern Border, Bangladeshi infiltration is still continuing after the political turmoil in the country in early August. Assam and Tripura’s vigilant security forces have apprehended hundreds of Bangladeshi infiltrators in the wake of the neighbouring country’s political unrest and economic distress.

Two Bangladeshi nationals including one woman and two Indian touts were taken into custody from the Agartala Railway Station on September 22 by Tripura police. With the assistance of Indian touts, the Bangladeshi nationals broke into India illegally. There is a specific case that has been filed against them. On the other hand, on 21nd of September, 14 intruders including 4 women were arrested at Agartala Railway Station by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF). Among them were three Indian touts and eleven Bangladeshi nationals.

Speaking about the matter, Tapas Das, the Officer-in-Charge of GRP at the Agartala Railway Station, stated that they were notified about the arrival of individuals who were illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. 14 people are being held at the Agartala Railway Station. Eleven of them are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who entered the country without authorization. They arrived at the Agartala Railway Station with the intention of going to Tamil Nadu and Gujarat in pursuit of employment.

Three Indian touts who were helping them have also been taken into custody. Police produced the arrested Bangladeshi intruders in a local court and they were sent to police custody by the court for further investigation. Their cell phones have been confiscated, along with some cash from Bangladesh and India. The districts of Khagrachari and Narail in Bangladesh are home to the majority of Bangladeshi citizens. They acknowledged that they had come to India illegally with the help of touts to work in factories as labour in big cities of states like Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. One of the Indian touts is from Silchar, Assam, according to the OC. In the meantime, four Bangladeshi infiltrators were caught by the Assam Police in the Karimganj region of Assam near the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The action is being taken at the same time as security personnel are keeping a close eye on events at the international border in order to keep a tight rein on any illegal incursion. The people who have been apprehended are Sourab Hawladar, Md Kawsar, Shah Alam, and Sohil Hawladar. The Assam Police’s action was praised by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who reiterated, “In yet another successful push back operation of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, Assam Police managed to apprehend and send back to Bangladesh individuals through the Karimganj border.”

Two unlawful Bangladeshi infiltrators were caught earlier on September 22 by the Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in two different incidents. The people who have been seized are Anowar Hussain and Al Mamon, both of whom are citizens of the neighbouring nation.
