In a significant development in religious conversions, in the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh, as many as eight individuals embraced Sanatan Dharma. The group includes five Christians and three Muslims who have long harboured an affinity for Sanatan Dharma but had not previously found an opportunity to formally convert.
The Ghar Wapsi was facilitated by a Hindu organisation that organised a grand event at a local temple in Bhopal. This event involved a series of traditional Vedic rituals, including havan (fire worship), which are integral to the conversion process.
Before the formal conversion ceremony, the individuals underwent a purification ritual involving the use of gaumutra, soil, and water from various rivers. They were also dressed in saffron attire, symbolising their new religious identity. The ceremony included a thorough introduction to the principles of Sanatan Dharma and the study of scriptures with chanting of mantras.
The newly converted individuals are:
– Farhat Parveen, who has adopted the name Rashmi and married Ravindra according to Hindu customs.
– Danish, who is now known as Dakshit.
– Rafiq, who has taken the name Ravindra.
– Victor, who is now Veerendra.
– Peter, who has been renamed Phoolchand.
– Caroline, who is now Kiran.
– Ailee has changed her name to Anshu.
– Mary, who now goes by Megha.
This event in Bhopal is part of a broader trend of Ghar Wapsis that has also been reported in the Indore and Mandsaur districts.
On a similar note, another significant conversion took place in Mandsaur on September 4. Mehnaz, a Muslim woman from Dhamnar, along with her two children, converted to Sanatan Dharma. Mehnaz now carries the name Meenakshi, and her children, Farhan and Shehzad, have been renamed Lav and Kush, respectively.
This marks the continuation of a conversion campaign that began in Mandsaur in 2022 with Sheikh Zafar Sheikh, who later adopted the name Chaitanyasingh Rajput. Since then, Rajput has facilitated the conversion of 47 individuals, including 38 women and 8 men.
In an interview, Mehnaz shared her reasons for conversion: “I now have a new name. I have always had faith in Sanatan Dharma. In our previous home, women were not respected at all, and my husband was very abusive. That’s why I decided to convert. I learned about Chaitanyasingh Rajput through a mobile contact. We met him, and he explained the legal and religious process. I formally adopted Sanatan Dharma on Wednesday.”
