As part of its ongoing effort to identify illegal migrants (Bangladeshis and Rohingyas), the Northeast Frontier Railway’s Railway Protection Force (RPF) has detained 225 of them as well as 16 Indian touts during checks at various N.F. Railway stations between January 1 and August 15, 2024. Interestingly after the latest political turmoil and series of violence in Bangladesh up to August 15th , 22 illegal migrants were apprehended by Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The Agartala RPF squad and GRP/Agartala conducted a routine drive at the Agartala Railway Station on August 1, 2024, which resulted in an incident. During their inspection, they found 10 suspicious individuals on the station property (seven men and three women). During questioning, they were unable to present any legitimate documentation or give any details about their travels. Subsequently, they acknowledged that they had entered India without authorisation from Bangladesh and intended to travel by train to Delhi. Later, for additional legal action, all of the undocumented migrants were turned over to the Officer in Charge of the Government Railway Police in Agartala. Previously, on July 02, 2024, and July 23, 2024, respectively, Agartala station yielded 11 and 4 illegal migrants.
The RPF of N. F. Railways regularly take a number of actions to maintain a careful check on suspicious individuals, illegal migrants, and Rohingyas at stations and trains. The deployed RPF personnel are extremely watchful at all levels to spot any suspicious activity of this nature, a statement issued by NF Railway reads.
