NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s distinctive sense of style has garnered attention both in India and globally, earning him the reputation of being one of the most stylish leaders in history. Known for his bold and colourful headgear, traditional Indian kurtas, bandh gala coats, and well-tailored suits, Modi’s wardrobe reflects a blend of tradition and modernity. His experimental approach to fashion not only highlights his personal flair but also embodies the cultural diversity of India, making him a fashion icon in his own right.

Famous for his suave dressing style, over the past decade, Prime Minister Modi has not only become a prominent figure in Indian politics but has also gained recognition for his unique and symbolic choice of headgear during Independence Day celebrations. Each year, his selection of turbans and hats carries cultural, regional, and political significance, highlighting the rich diversity and unity of India. On his first Independence Day as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi donned a vibrant Rajasthani turban, showcasing the cultural heritage of Rajasthan. The turban featured a mix of orange, yellow, and green, symbolising celebration and festivity in Indian culture. Its intricate patterns blended traditional and modern elements.

In 2015, PM Modi went for a yellow turban adorned with multi-coloured criss-cross lines. The design included shades of yellow, red, and green, with a long trail extending to his ankles, a characteristic of traditional Indian turbans.

On August 15, 2019, PM Modi wore a resplendent saffron turban adorned with intricate embroidery, symbolizing national pride. He added a richly patterned stole, which showed India’s artisanal heritage, giving a message of unity and progress.

For his seventh consecutive Independence Day speech, PM Modi wore a saffron and cream turban paired with a white kurta and churidar. The ensemble, completed with an orange and white scarf, combined traditional elegance with national significance.

In 2021, amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi donned a saffron turban with vibrant red patterns and a flowing pink trail. His attire, which included a white kurta, churidar, and a rich blue jacket, was a blend of tradition and resilience.

I-Day 2022:

In 2022, PM Modi celebrated Independence Day with a white kurta and churidar pyjama, paired with a baby-blue Nehru jacket. His headgear, a white turban adorned with orange and green stripes, paid homage to the Indian national flag.

Bandhani Print Turban (2023)

On August 15, 2023, PM Modi wore a multicolored Rajasthani-style turban with a bandhani print featuring shades of yellow, green, and red. The turban was complemented by an off-white kurta, churidar, and a black V-neck jacket with a geometric patterned pocket square.
