Amid the political turmoil and continuing violence in Bangladesh, several Muslim intruders are trying to cross the border to the Indian side. On August 12, the Assam Police apprehended four nationals of Bangladesh trying to cross into India through the Karimganj border between Bangladesh and India. Around 1:30 am, the police moved quickly to stop the four Bangladeshi infiltrators from entering the area without permission. The identities of the four people are Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, Rita Mullah, and Motiur Seikh.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted the essential details on the microblogging platform X. A group of at least ten to fifteen Bangladeshi nationals were alleged to have attempted to “forcefully” enter the Indian villages of Bhogdanga and Faushkarkuti in Dhubri earlier on August 11. These villages are located beyond the boundary barrier. These villages are in a vital geographic area spanning 684 bighas and are part of the Berbhangi Gaon Panchayat, governed by the Dhubri district. Known as India’s “chicken neck” region, they are home to 642 people. The Kurigram district of Bangladesh bounds the villages on three sides: Shiparhat to the south, Balabari to the west, and Choto Khamar to the east.
Amid continuing instability in the neighbouring country, the commandant of the 193 Battalion, Meghalaya Border Security Force (BSF), spoke with the 28 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) commanding officer. During their conversation, the BSF representatives committed to working together to uphold the safety and sanctity of the Indo-Bangladesh border. The arrests at a checkpoint in a deep region were significant for border security initiatives.
