Hindu temples vandalised and minorities faced the brunt of violence

Clear evidence of killings, multiple loots, vandalism, attacks on Hindu Mandirs, and various other forms of violence perpetrated by Islamic jihadists (including Jamaat-Shibir and other radical groups) against Hindus and other minorities (such as Buddhists) in Bangladesh from August 5 to August 7, 2024.

Dhaka District (Capital of Bangladesh) :

In Rishipara, Lalbag, all Hindu homes were extensively vandalised and looted.

In Mugda, Biplab Rajbanshi’s gold jewellery shop and Gopal Rajbanshi’s pharmacy store were both thoroughly vandalised and looted.

The Ma Kali Mandir in Nandipara, Khilgaon, was entirely demolished, along with the surrounding houses of minorities. Another nearby Hindu residence was also completely vandalised.

At Dhanmondi, the house of renowned musician Rahul Anand and his collection of 3,000 musical instruments were completely destroyed by arson. Anand and his family were forced to leave the area.

In Sutrapur, three departmental stores owned by Hindu citizen Sanjoy Ghose were unlawfully occupied.

At Tatibazar, 50 Hindu families faced continuous threats from jihadists, who warned of imminent attacks on their homes and properties.

In Mugda, Biplab Rajbanshi’s gold jewellery shop and Gopal Rajbanshi’s pharmacy store were both thoroughly vandalised and looted.

In Kalachandpur, Badda, the property of a Buddhist temple was illegally occupied.

Khulna District

In Tutpara, the houses and properties of Biman Bihari Amit and Animesh Sarkar Rintu were completely demolished and looted.

In Haisgati village, Rupsha thana, the homes of Shyamal Kumar Das and Shajan Kumar Das, along with their families, were assaulted, vandalised, and robbed.

In Saha Para, near KUET, jihadists attacked and looted the houses of minorities.

The godowns and business centres owned by Gopal Chandra Saha were entirely demolished and looted.

The house of Amtoli Union Parishad member Jaianta Gain was attacked and vandalised.

In Malikhali village, Koyra Upazila, the Hindu colony, was subjected to vandalism and robbery.

In Dighilia, Chandni Mahal area, Islamists looted and vandalised the homes of Nripen Roy and his son Anup Roy, threatening them with death.

In Meherpur Upazila, Khulna district, Islamists attacked and set ablaze an ISKCON-run Hindu temple, leaving it in ruins.

Chattogram District (Business capital of Bangladesh) :

Islamist gangs attempted to attack the Hindu Colony at Hazari Lane, but the local Hindu community successfully defended themselves. The gangs later tried to vandalise nearby Mandirs but were unsuccessful.

The Nabagraha Mandir in Laldighi was attacked and demolished.

Chairman Ravindra Lal Chowdhury’s house in Binojuri village, Raojan Upazila, was thoroughly vandalised and looted.

Vandalism and robbery occurred at the home of Samir Dasgupta, the Panel Mayor of Raojan.

In Raojan Upazila, the house of Uzzal Chakraborty and his family was completely vandalised.

In Katgor, Islamists are threatening Hindus and other minorities while attempting to illegally seize their properties.

The Loknath Mandir in Agrabad was attacked and vandalised.

Dinajpur District:

The Hindu crematorium ground was illegally occupied by radicals.

In Fultola, the Hindu crematorium ground was illegally seized by Islamists.

In Dholla village, ChirirBandar thana, all Hindu family homes were set on fire.

A total of five Hindu Mandirs were vandalised and looted by Islamists.

Hindu colonies in Dinajpur city were completely demolished and robbed.

In Senpara, Parbatipur Upazila, the homes of Hindus and other minorities were attacked, vandalised, and looted.

In Bochaganj and Shehtabganj, Hindus and other minorities have been subjected to vandalism, looting, and robbery.

In Binganj, Hindu and minority homes suffered arson attacks and vandalism.

In 2no. Ichania Union, Bochaganj police station area, about 40-50 shops and business centres owned by Hindus were completely burned, vandalised, and looted. A Hindu citizen named Kishor was severely beaten and is in critical condition.

In Boro Bandar, most Hindu residences experienced arson attacks.

Jessore District:

In Keshabpur, Hindus and other minorities faced attacks and vandalism.

In Keshabpur, Manirampur, Zhikorgacha, Avoynagar, and Bagharpara Upazilas, attacks and demolitions of Hindu homes and business centres continue, with no assistance from the authorities despite requests for help.

In Bechapara, Jessore city, Hindu residents experienced vandalism and robberies.

In Brammanpara, Hindu citizens were subjected to demolitions and physical assaults.

At Durbaganj Bazar, Manirampur thana, five departmental stores owned by Hindu citizens were completely vandalised and looted.

In Bagharpara, Narikelbaria, the godowns and 22 stores belonging to Babul Saha were completely vandalised and looted.

At Padmapukur, Lumar Chandra Das’s house was entirely vandalised and looted.

In Jessore city, Kartic Poddar’s house and business centre were thoroughly demolished and looted.

In Kundupara, Senhati village, 15 Hindu homes were extensively vandalised and robbed.

In Avoynagar Union, Dhopadi village, arson attacks were carried out on the homes of three Hindu citizens.

At Durbaganj Bazar, Manirampur thana, five departmental stores owned by Hindu citizens were completely vandalised and looted.

Bogra District:

At Harikhali Bazar, Madhabpur Union, the houses and shops of minorities are being demolished and robbed.

In Vabanipur, the Shaktipeeth Mandir was entirely vandalised and burned.

In Narayanpur, Shibganj Upazila, a Hindu colony, was attacked, with their houses and properties completely demolished.

In Pirgacha Upazila, Pushpa Kirtaniya’s house was completely vandalised and looted.

Pirojpur District:

In Indurkathi, at least 20 Hindu homes were vandalised, looted, and burned.

In various areas of Pirojpur Town, including Rayer Kathi, Bramhan Kathi, and Baju Kathi, Hindu women endured brutal torture. Islamists attacked Hindu homes, leading to looting and at least 12 cases of rape or gang rape.

The houses of Dilip Kumar, Narayan Chowdhury, and Gopal Chandra Basu were completely demolished and looted.

In Rayerpur, Golapkathi, all Hindu homes were completely vandalised and looted.

In ShreRamkathi Bazar, Nazirpur, all shops and godowns owned by Hindus were thoroughly vandalised and looted.

Faridpur District:

In Purbali Bazar, Madhukhali, all departmental stores owned by Hindus were vandalised.

In Dengamari and Krishnapur, Hindu colonies faced brutal violence. Hindu citizens were beaten and stabbed with sharp weapons, and their homes were burned and vandalised.

Manikganj District:

In the Zealpur Union, Valuka Thana, a Hindu Mandir, was attacked, vandalised, and looted. Barun Chakraborty was beaten and injured during the attack.

In Gafargaon, Valuka, Manik Nandi’s house was completely vandalised and looted.

Nilphamari District:

In Medical Square, Dimla Upazila, Komol Roy’s house was thoroughly vandalised and looted.

In Shonarai Union, the house of Hindu citizen Amulla Chandra Biswas was completely vandalised and looted.

Sylhet District:

In 2no. Ward, Sylhet city, the office of Hindu citizen Jagadish Chandra was entirely demolished.

In Sylhet city, the home of Hindu citizen Rocky Dev was completely vandalised and looted.

Jhenaidah District:

In Chaklapur, Jhenaidah city, all Hindu homes were completely vandalised and looted.

The house of Puja Udjapan Parishad President Ram Candra Sarkar was vandalised and looted.

Magura District:

Sanjib Biswas’s house was attacked, demolished, and looted.

In Shingra Village, extensive vandalism and robberies occurred in the Hindu colony.

Three brothers from one family were severely beaten and seriously injured.

Sherpur District:

Gopal Chandra Sarkar’s houses and business centres were completely vandalised and looted.

Debashish Bhattacharya’s house was vandalised and robbed.

The house of Hindu citizen Haradhan Chowdhury was entirely demolished and looted.

Noakhali District:

Along Shonapur Road, Kabirhat thana, all Hindu-operated LPG stations were illegally occupied.

In Basurhat Upazila, school teacher Haran Chakrabarty’s house was attacked, vandalised, and looted. His son, Bikash Chakrabarty, was kidnapped from the house.

Tangail District:

Sajal Kundu’s house and business centre were vandalised and looted, with his mother badly beaten and in critical condition.

Bhajan Kumar Mitra’s house in Dildowar Upazila was thoroughly vandalised and looted.

The Joy Ma Kali Mandir in Deldowar Upazila was attacked and vandalised.

Thakurgaon District:

Bidesh Chandra’s house experienced massive vandalism, with everything inside looted.

The ISKCON Mandir was attacked, and around 400 Hindu families living nearby were threatened and attacked. All valuables, including money, were looted.

Islamists attacked a Hindu village in Thakurgaon, vandalising and looting homes and a Hindu Mandir, including the desecration of murtis.

Pirojpur District:

The Ma Kali Mandir at Sanghati Union was attacked and looted.

Kishorganj District:

The homes of Hindu citizens Nakul Kumar and Sushanta were destroyed by arson attacks.

Chuadanga District:

Most houses and business centres owned by minorities were demolished and looted.

Natore District:

The house of Hindu citizen Ajit Kumar Sarkar and four departmental stores owned by minorities were completely vandalised and looted.

Laxmipur District:

Gautam Mazumder’s house was attacked, looted, and burned in an arson attack.

In Ramgati Upazila, Ashu Kumar Das’s business centre was completely vandalised.

Feni District:

The Durga Mandir in Feni city was thoroughly attacked and vandalized.

Narshingdi District:

Islamic radicals attacked the Kali Mata Mandir in Kandipara village, Varat area. They broke the temple gate, vandalized the murti (idol), and threw it out.

Businessman Dipak Saha’s residence and office were attacked and demolished.

Jaipurhat District:

In Arampur and Purganj, Khetlal thana, all Hindu homes were completely burned and vandalised.

Satkhira District:

Biswajit Saha’s house suffered arson attacks, robberies, and demolitions.

Dr. Shubrata Ghosh’s house was thoroughly vandalised and looted.

Ten departmental stores owned by Hindu minorities were completely vandalised and looted.

Mymensingh District:

Gauripur Upazila Chairman Somnath Saha’s business centres were fully demolished and looted.

In Gauripur, two cars belonging to businessman Pradip Devnath were looted.

In Muktagachha, the homes of Ashok Paul and Uzzal Paul were completely vandalised and looted.

In Tarkanda Upazila, Hindu homes faced attacks, demolitions, and robberies.

In Fulpur, Baliya Union, all Hindu homes were completely vandalised and looted.

In Tarkanda Upazila, Pradip Chakrabarty’s house and business centre were thoroughly vandalised and looted.
