The crisis in Bangladesh began in July 2024 when student protests erupted against a controversial quota system in civil service jobs. 56 per ecnt of government posts in Bangladesh set aside for different groups—including 30 per cent for the descendants of freedom fighters who participated in the 1971 War of Independence—was the root of the protest. Despite the government’s decision to withdraw the quota system, the protests intensified, fuelled by broader economic discontent and high unemployment rates. Facing immense pressure and escalating violence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who had been in power since 2009, resigned on August 5, 2024, and fled the country. Her resignation marked a significant turning point in the crisis. Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced the establishment of an interim administration after Hasina’s resignation. This action taken to stabilise the situation, has only garnered attention to Bangladesh’s severe political vacuum and deep-seated anti-minority sentiment. The political crisis and leadership transition have created uncertainty and further instability.
Following Sheikh Hasina’s downfall, violence in Bangladesh has not abated, particularly against the Hindu minority living in the country. Numerous incidents of Islamist mob attacks on Hindus have been documented. Numerous Hindu temples across the nation have been overtaken by unrelenting violence, and Hindu homes have been set on fire and hundreds of people have been lynched. Radical Islamist organisations, such as the Pakistan-affiliated Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Bangladesh, have taken control of the country through arson and street violence. Islamist extremists have been terrorising minority communities, especially Hindus, and wreaking havoc on the streets. It is pertinent to note that JeI is a banned Islamist outfit that was responsible for the genocide of the Hindus and Bengali-speaking Muslims during the 1971 war. Reports from Rangpur to Dhaka reveal a systematic campaign of terror against Hindu communities. The atrocities are not random acts of violence; they are coordinated attacks meant to instil fear and drive out a minority that has contributed richly to the nation’s cultural and social fabric. Even the interim government and the military, now in control, have failed to protect the vulnerable. Instead of restoring order, they have allowed, if not encouraged, these heinous acts. Their silence is complicity. The international community must not turn a blind eye to this ethnic slaughter. Where are the voices of the global leaders who preach democracy and human rights? Where is the United Nations, the supposed guardian of international peace? Their inaction is a betrayal of the very principles they claim to uphold.
It is evident that the atrocities and rampaging in the streets of Bangladesh have only been made possible by international silence, their inability to accept the reality and their fallacious support to such acts of terrorism masquerading as Gen Z protest. Hindumisia is at its peak across the world and the New York Times headline covering Bangladeshi Hindus killing spree only confirms this “HINDUS IN BANGLADESH FACE ‘REVENGE ATTACKS’ AFTER PRIME MINSTER’S EXIT”. So to simplify, the leftists worldwide who are seen celebrating and rejoicing this violence and calling for such riot in India suggest that Hindus are being killed in a coup that’s purported to “restore democracy” in “revenge” for having backed the “wrong” political party during elections. As monstrous as it sounds, but this is the reality of how Leftists media cabals whitewash atrocities and violence against Hindus. This is how Islamists backed Leftist media thinks of an average Kafir’s life.
It then becomes both morally and politically imperative to denounce such leftist frontal organisations worldwide and those within JNU and other purported intellectuals who hail these demonstrations as a democratic student revolution. Innocent lives have been lost as a result of their narrow and violent conception of revolution and justice. The Leftists and those applauding this violent bloodbath as legitimate movement also have their hands in the Hindu blood that stains the streets of Bangladesh. The left’s narrative is simple and clear – whatever is scoring them points, is right. This is a massacre – a genocide; as any movement for restoring justice and righteousness cannot rest on bigoted, frenzied students turned mobs who feel accomplished after vandalising PM’s residence and publicly displaying her personal belongings and hunting down Hindus, as a sign of victory! See for yourself in the photos flooded on the internet how these zealot revolutionaries are fighting for their rights by waving her intimate wear, absolutely sickening and disgusting!
Interestingly, the only reason the Leftists in India are celebrating Sheikh Hasina’s departure is that they now subscribe to the newly discovered common narrative of the “fight against dictatorship” voiced by protesters in Bangladesh. Otherwise, until very recently, they would glorify Sheikh Hasina and disparage India by citing Bangladesh as an example of a purportedly utopian society. Statements like Bangladesh either has left India behind or is close to doing so based on a number of factors; in these times of progress, Bangladesh is leading by example for its neighbour; Bangladeshis are generally happier than Indians; Bangladeshis have put aside their tensions between Muslims and Hindus and are concentrating on progress made into news every now and then.
The chilling videos and photos of blood and gore, of targeting people based on their religion, identifying Hindu houses in order to burn it and the people inside it, desecration of Hindu deities – destroying the temples like ISKCON which has been feeding lakhs of poor in Bangladesh irrespective of their religion and organises Iftar for Muslims, all in the name of Students Movement is not only despicable but misleading. Hindus are being slaughtered for no other reason than their inescapable ethnic identity. It is a disgrace for its apologists to refer to this as a student movement. This is nothing more than an Islamic aggression, a conspiracy with implications beyond Bangladesh skilfully sponsored by the American deep state, Bangladeshi fanatics, and the Pakistan’s ISI. It is disgusting that the Leftists are trying to pass off this massacre as a democratic protest led by innocent students. Everyone involved in its whitewashing and defense too have the blood of innocent Hindus on their hands.
It is imperative for the Indian government, Bangladesh government and the entire international community to take immediate action in order to protect the people of Bangladesh, particularly the persecuted minorities and bring an end to violence and return to democratic governance. Let’s resist becoming passive witnesses to acts of genocide. Let us be the generation that opposes dictatorship and the eradication of ethnic groups. Action must be taken immediately! In solidarity with the oppressed and in the defense of human dignity of Bangladeshi Hindus!
