A shocking incident of rape involving a 16-year-old mentally challenged girl who was learning piano has sparked outrage in the city of Haldwani. The accused, Mohammad Nadeem, an auto driver, was arrested after a group of students from Haldwani’s MBPG College protested and demanded his execution.
The incident came to light after the girl was allegedly raped by Nadeem in a secluded location near Mangalpadav, instead of being taken to her piano class. The victim’s parents filed a complaint with the Kotwali police, leading to Nadeem’s arrest and subsequent arrest.
The students, angered by the incident, alleged that there are many such auto drivers in Haldwani who come from outside, change their names and religion, and commit such heinous acts. They demanded strong action from the police against those who commit such crimes.

The students have raised concerns about the presence of numerous unregistered outsiders operating autos in the state, urging authorities to conduct thorough investigations before granting them permission to operate.
During the protest, the students hung Nadeem in a symbolic gesture to demand his death. They also alleged that Nadeem threatened the victim, saying she would get killed if she shared about the incident with anyone.
The police officers, who were not present at the scene, managed to persuade the protesting students to return home after explaining and assuring them that action would be taken. It is reported that all the big officers, including the police district officer, had gone to a meeting in Nainital.
For a long time, the students continued to demonstrate their demands in Kotwali. Finally, after the assurance of the police officers, the students returned.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter laws and better enforcement to protect minors from such predators.
