Combating Pakistan-sponsored terrorism: Time for decisive action

Recent terrorist attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, involving sophisticated Chinese weapons and local support, highlight the urgent need for India to adopt proactive and preemptive measures against Pakistani-sponsored terrorism

The recent spate of fresh terrorist intrusion from Pakistan and incidents of violent attacks on Indian security personnel deployed in Jammu & Kashmir raises serious concerns about national security. The last six weeks since June 4, 2024 — the day of the declaration of the General Election result in Bharat have witnessed a series of such gory incidents, beginning with the cowardly attack on a bus in the Reasi area carrying devotee pilgrims to Vaishno Devi shrine in which nine people were killed and 41 injured. Recently, such incidents happened in the Doda area, in which a few of our security personnel lost their precious lives.

The above attacks have revealed a changing trend—the terrorists are armed with the latest sophisticated weapons of state-of-the-art technology of Chinese make; they are better trained and seem to possess professional military backgrounds; they have the covert support of local traitors residing in Bharat.

The POK area has been willfully and strategically inhabited by terrorist mercenaries and their cohorts under the direction of their state sponsors in recent months. The wailings and protestations by the normal population continue to be cruelly ignored by the government officials in Pakistan in this area. Modern warfare bunkers have been built with the help of China in the area. Sophisticated artillery items have been deployed understandably to thwart Bharat’s action to reclaim the POK.

We are privy to a spectacle of almost regular killings of ordinary, innocent citizens at the hands of terrorists and jehadi madmen, which is heart-rending. We are witnessing the loss of lives of Bharat’s soldiers through cowardly attacks by terrorists, which is even more so. And we are also seeing the Government giving mild, reactive responses to these acts of Pakistani intruders, which is most unfortunate.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth? A soldier sacrificed fighting a terrorist? No, no. A terrorist and a soldier are not equivalent. A soldier is equivalent to 100 terrorists. His life is 100 times more precious than that of a terrorist in the broader sense. That is why we need to destroy 100 terrorists, wherever they may be, at whatever collateral cost, for every single soldier of Bharat killed.

Why can’t our Government take hard, retaliatory steps and, more than that, proactive steps to counter the foreign terrorists, a la Israel and the USA? Why can’t preemptive measures be taken to forestall terrorist intrusion and violence? Humans are limited by intelligence and knowledge in dealing with their problems. Their Creator, Ishwar, is omniscient. That is why He has handed down primaeval scriptures to humanity in the form of Vedas and also delivered to humans the divine code of institutional living in Manusmriti to guide peaceful and progressive existence on this planet.

Let me cite the reference of Manusmriti and Atharvaved, our subliminal Sanatan scriptures regarding dealing with anti-national elements—domestic or foreign. Atharvaved, the eternal divine scripture, pronounces that terrorists should be crushed to death like killing the venomous snake in your backyard. Manusmriti, the codebook of human civilisation, declares that traitors and anti-national elements should be done to death instantly when identified. There is no room for trial or imprisonment. Chanakya, our ancient celebrated political scholar, echoes the same strands of guidance in his famous work Chanakyaneeti.

Let all future action against terrorist infiltrators from Pakistan be preemptive and proactive. Action should target the training camps and residential buildings of terrorists. Pakistan’s ex-army personnel training the terrorists and dispersed among them should also be considered terrorists in the internationally accepted connotation. Last but not least, local persons in Jammu & Kashmir who are aiding, abetting and shielding terrorists should also be considered terrorists. They should be meted out the same treatment.

The above would be the cheapest, quickest and lasting solution to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Action on the above-suggested lines brooks no delay.
