Hindu Munnani (HM) has strongly criticised the Tamil Nadu government for its perceived inaction against the alleged parallel governance and Muslim appeasement by the Dravidian Model government, particularly in relation to the rape of a minor girl by a 60-year-old Muslim man in Kanyakumari district. HM’s state president, Kadeswara Subramaniam, expressed concern over the lack of action against Jamaath administrations functioning as parallel governments within the state.

Subramaniam highlighted an incident in Thiruvithankodu, Kanyakumari district, where a 60-year-old man allegedly raped a minor girl. Instead of reporting the incident to the police, the local Jamaat officials convened a Katta Panchayat (kangaroo court) to suppress the issue.

They demanded that the accused be confined to the Jamaat office, his house be sold, and three lakh rupees from the sale be paid to the victim. The way the Jamaath handled the rape case, by not reporting it to the police and booking the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant laws, has sparked public outcry on social media. Following the public response, the police registered a case under the POCSO Act.

Hindu Munnani criticised the police for not taking action against the Jamaat administrators, despite a High Court directive to take strict measures against those conducting Katta Panchayats. Subramaniam urged the Tamil Nadu government to address the interference of Muslim Imams acting as quasi-governments across the state, warning of the detrimental effects on democracy.

He demanded that the police initiate a case and take independent action, rather than citing the lack of formal complaints against the Jamaat involved in this incident. Hindu Munnani also sought direct investigations by the District Child Welfare Officer and the District Collector, emphasising the need for stringent action against the responsible Jamaat administrators.

Subramaniam cautioned that if such attitudes persist, they could lead to law-and-order issues and undermine public trust. He urged the government to carefully consider the evolving situation and take proactive steps to address the concerns raised by Hindu Munnani.

The statement (see image below) quotes: “In the case of the rape of a girl by a 60-year-old man in Kanyakumari district’s Thiruvithankodu area, the officials of the Muslim Jamaat in Thiruvithankodu have engaged in a Katta Panchayat without informing the police, demanding that the accused person be tied up in the Jamaat office and the house should be sold, and three lakh rupees should be paid to the victim girl.

A case has been registered against the old man under the POCSO Act after the related news spread on social media. However, while the High Court has issued an order to take stringent action against those involved in Katta Panchayats, it causes doubt among the people whether the Tamil Nadu Police refrained from acting against the Jamaat administrators, fearing the Muslim Jamaats? The Tamil Nadu government should take serious note that the Muslim Jamaat’s are acting like a separate entity throughout Tamil Nadu, which will spoil the democracy.

It added, “The Tamil Nadu Police Department should register a case and take suo motto without giving any reason that no one has filed a complaint against the Muslim Jamaat involved in the Katta Panchayat in this incident. Also, the District Child Welfare Officer and the District Collector should directly investigate the incident and take strict action against the concerned Jamaat administrators. And the government should take into consideration that if this kind of attitude continues, an environment lacking in credibility and law and order problem will develop in the country.”

In another incident, a 23-year-old resident of Karumbukadai in Coimbatore, identified as M. Mohamed Ayas, was arrested in Srinagar, Kashmir, on July 21st. Ayas had eloped with a 17-year-old minor girl and was traced to a lodge in Srinagar during a police check.

Mohammed Saleem, the father of Ayas, had filed a missing person report with the Karumbukadai police station on Sunday afternoon after his son did not return home following the closure of their shop on July 13.

Meanwhile, the Perur All Woman Police registered a missing person report for the 17-year-old girl on July 14th. It was revealed that Ayas had fallen in love with the girl and had eloped with her, promising to marry her. The police were informed that the couple had been detained in Kashmir during a hotel check.

A team was dispatched to Kashmir to bring them back to Coimbatore for further investigation, and they were returned on July 23.

Hindu Munnani has now called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the case, questioning Ayas’ motives for taking the girl to Kashmir. The organisation raised concerns about potential connections to the Islamic State, human trafficking, and whether this was another instance of “love jihad.”

In a tweet, Hindu Munnani stated that the Muslim youth had taken the girl to Kashmir and sexually assaulted her, labeling it as another case of “love jihad.” They have also called for the involvement of the National Commission for Women and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
