LUCKNOW: As the nation prepares to observe Muharram on July 17, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has taken proactive steps to ensure the peaceful conduct of the festival in the state.
Speaking at a state meeting, the chief minister stressed that the state government is focused on creating rules for festivals to ensure public safety. He said that if people want to celebrate the festival, they must follow these rules, or stay at home.
Adityanath emphasised that no form of anarchy will be tolerated during the celebrations, stressing the importance of maintaining strict law and order.
Muharram, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year, is a significant period for Muslims worldwide. The 10th day, known as Ashura, commemorates the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, in the Battle of Karbala. This day is observed with profound mourning and reflection, especially within Shia communities.
The chief minister praised the BJP-led state government’s success on the law and order front and stressed that the state has been freed from mafias and goons.
Yogi recalled how earlier houses and properties were damaged during Tazia processions. He noted that autocracy prevailed in the absence of the rule of law.
The chief minister said that people have seen that earlier during Muharram, the roads used to be empty. In the name of Tazia, houses were demolished, peepal trees were cut, and wires were removed from the roads. Now the scenario has changed, no demolition, only peaceful processions.
During the meeting, Yogi also highlighted several achievements of his government. He noted that they have improved the state economy’s rank from an earlier 6th to now 2nd in the country. He added that today large-scale investment is being made in UP. The infrastructure is getting stronger.
He also noted that infrastructure in the state, once a distant dream, has significantly improved, with four-lane connectivity now common throughout the state. Chief Minister Yogi said that the government fulfilled its pledge to make Bundelkhand dacoit-free and had made the state mafia-free. Remembering Lohia, he remarked: Lohia ji had said that as long as Ram, Krishna and Shiva are worshipped in India, no one can destroy India. But these socialists have tarnished the tradition of Ram, Krishna, and Shiva.
CM Yogi also slammed the Samajwadi party stating that the socialists had attempted to take away the reservation meant for the backward caste and Dalits in the name of religion. He asked BJP workers not to be on the back foot because of the recent election results and urged them to maintain the momentum through which the party received great success in 2014, 2017, 2019, and then in the 2022 elections. He also urged them to start preparing for the by-elections as well as taking a resolve to bring back the BJP government in power in 2027.
