In a major success for the Jharkhand police as many as two Maoist commanders carrying a significant cumulative bounty on their heads have surrendered before the officials, said police on Friday, July 5.

Neeraj Singh Khairwar alias Sanjay Khairwar along with Laukesh alias Salman alias Rajkumar Ganjhu, both zonal commanders of the outlawed CPI Maoist have joined the mainstream parting ways with the banned group.

The surrender took place before the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Palamu Range YS Ramesh, Deputy Commissioner, Latehar, Garima Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Latehar, Anjani Anjan, and other officials of the security forces under the flagship “Nayi Disha” campaign being run by the Jharkhand police.

Khairwar, a resident of Palamu district is reported to be a key member of the Regional Commander, Chotu Khairwar’s squad and was carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh. The other surrendered cadre, Salman alias laukesh is a resident of Balumath of Latehar district. Both Khairwar and Laukesh have been provided with an ex-gravita amount of Rs 10 lakh each.

Briefing the media on the development, Latehar SP, Anjani Anjan said that “we have been continuously trying to make Latehar a Naxal-free district and we have achieved some major success in the past two or three years. The continuous pressure exaggerated by the forces and police has led to the surrender of these two people”.

“There is no place left in Latehar which is out of reach of the police and the security forces now, they (Maoists) have understood it now that the era of Naxalism (Maoism) is finished now, so I would take this opportunity to appeal to the them to join the mainstream,” added SP.

Meanwhile the surrendered Maoists have also made an appeal to their former accomplices to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream.

It is worth mentioning here that the police along with other units of the security forces have been running regular campaigns against the Maoists in Latehar district and it had also managed to nab two hardcore Maoist cadres along with others on June 24.

Those arrested were involved in threatening local businessmen associated with brick kilns operating in separate places in Latehar district for levy extortion and were members of the Tritiye Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the outlawed CPI Maoist.

It was further revealed that the arrested accused Deepak Oraon and Islam Ansari had recently walked out of jail and were indulged in reviving the TSPC group in the region.

Notably, security forces in the past few years have successfully contained the spread of the outlawed CPI Maoist, People Liberation Front of India (PLFI), and TSPC, all separate terror entities active in the state of Jharkhand.
