Telling the story of Bhagavan Ram is considered a blissful act of devotion towards the culture and dharma of the land. Since Valmiki first narrated this epic, Bharatiya society has been immersed in its devotion, striving to embody the noble characters of the Ramayana within their lives.
The Ramayana has been told in various languages and forms across the world. Now, with the same spirit and devotion, Hyderabad-based Mara Creations has developed an animated television series named “Sriman Rama”, set to premiere on Doordarshan starting Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 12:00 noon to 12:30 pm every week, spanning 52 episodes.
Speaking with Organiser the promoter of this series, Ramachandra Vishnubhatta, said “Sriman Rama animation series aims to not only entertain but also educate viewers about the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Bharat. The series promises to stay true to the essence of
Sri Ram, the Maryada Purushottam, while offering a fresh perspective that resonates with contemporary audiences.”
In the entertainment industry, kids’ animation has a major share and role in it, however, filtering this with ‘what is right and not right’ is most concerning for all, particularly parents. Among the 1.4 billion population, 40 crore are less than 15 years of age, teaching them the culture and history of Bharat is a responsible task to pass on the same story to today’s contemporary audience where technology has become an inseparable part of society”, he added
The makers of this series said “Sriman Rama is tailored in animation format to engage both kids and families. The series offers rich cultural backgrounds and life values in a medium they understand and enjoy. Our approach ensures that the virtues of Sri Rama are inherently depicted in each episode, providing both education and entertainment—making it edutainment. With its grand storytelling, compelling characters, and visual splendor, Sriman Rama is poised to become a landmark series in Indian television.”
Plot and Characters
The story of Sriman Rama centers around the fictional adventures of Bala Rama during his education at Sage Vasishta’s Gurukul. While the series is inspired by the Ramayana, it does not retell the epic but instead presents new stories that highlight the values and virtues of Rama as a supreme character and Maryada Purushottam. Rama’s unwavering virtue, courage, and adherence to dharma (righteousness) are depicted in each episode, tailored to resonate with children. The series will explore his childhood adventures along with his brothers and friends. “Sriman Rama” is a 52-week serial, being telecast every Sunday. The entire series is conceived, written & directed by National award winner Mr Satyakasi Bhargava
