Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday participated in the state level Yoga practice program organised at CM House in Bhopal and performed group Yoga asanas with students and special guests.

CM Yadav also launched a promotional campaign for Millets “Shri Anna Samvardhan Abhiyan” on the occasion and appealed to make the campaign successful by gifting Kodo-Kutki seeds to the farmers.

“Today, on the occasion of 10th International Yoga Day, the “Shri Anna Samvardhan Abhiyan” was launched in the ‘State Level Yoga Practice’ program organised in Bhopal. On this occasion, I also appealed to make this campaign successful by providing Kodo-Kutki seeds to the farmer,” CM posted on X.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, “Ten years ago on this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had presented a proposal of to be healthy with Yoga in the United Nations, and it was adopted by them. I extend my congratulations to PM Modi on the occasion of International Day of Yoga and another milestone has been added to it, Shri Anna Samvardhan Abhiyan.”

“We all know that physical fitness is necessary to stay healthy through yoga, but along with fitness, diet is also equally important. We are fortunate that ‘Shri Anna’ (millets) are produced in our country. We see that the use of wheat has increased in our country but it is not the crop of our country, it has come from abroad and its proof is that in our worship rituals rice is used. If rice is not available then Jawar, Bajra is used but wheat is not used. It means “Shri Anna” (millets) is our ancient food,” the Chief Minister said.

CM Yadav further said that the state government would be starting 11 new Ayurvedic colleges in the state through which forest wealth, the specialty of the region and the role of the state in the field of Ayurveda would come to the fore on a large scale.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derived from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness.

Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21, following its adoption by the United Nations in 2014.

Several Yoga events are being organised at various places across the state on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
