In a tragic incident on June 9, a terror attack targeted a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the loss of nine lives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, upon learning about the attack, promptly engaged in a detailed review of the situation. He instructed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to closely monitor developments and extend all necessary support to the bereaved families.

Lt. Gov. Manoj Sinha, conveying the Prime Minister’s directives, emphasised the ongoing efforts to assist those affected. Through a message shared on X, he highlighted PM Modi’s instructions for constant monitoring and support. In response to the attack, security forces have initiated a comprehensive operation aimed at apprehending the perpetrators, with Sinha affirming that those responsible will face justice promptly.

“I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack on a bus in Reasi. My condolences to the family members of the martyred civilians,” Sinha expressed, acknowledging the swift action taken by security forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in launching a joint operation to track down the terrorists involved.

The assault took place on Sunday evening as terrorists attacked a bus filled with pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle was en route from Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra near Teryath village in the Poni area when it came under fire and subsequently plunged into a gorge. The attack occurred around 6:15 pm, causing not only fatalities but also injuring 33 individuals.

Prime Minister Modi has also mandated that those injured in this heinous act receive the highest standard of medical care and assistance. This directive underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of victims and their families during this difficult time.

The bus, carrying pilgrims on their way to the Shiv Khori temple, came under attack in Teryath village in the Poni area. Preliminary reports suggest that three pilgrims died in the terrorists’ fire, and seven others died after the bus plunged into a deep gorge as the attack unfolded. SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma says, “Initial reports suggest that terrorists fired upon the passenger bus going from Shiv Khori to Katra. Due to the firing, the bus driver lost balance of the bus and it fell into gorge. 33 people were injured in the incident. Rescue operation has been completed. The identities of the passengers have not been confirmed yet, they are not locals. Shiv Khori shrine was secured and area domination was done.” DC Reasi has said that 10 people have lost their lives in this incident.

On Reasi Terror attack, Defence Expert Hemant Mahajan says, “…We have invited dignitaries from all the neighbourhood countries except Pakistan for today’s swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi and council of ministers. If this attack occurs at this moment, its objective is very clear. If you see, tourism has increased in Kashmir, which gives opportunities to the residents to do their business and get jobs, such terrorist attacks will damage everything. Amarnath Yatra is going to start and that goes through the route on which the attack took place… Security forces led by the Indian Army should take offensive actions to either capture or kill those who are involved in these attacks…”

An Army helicopter was brought in to conduct a search operation in Reasi following an attack by terrorists on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi. After the attack by terrorists on the bus, it fell into a gorge and 10 people lost their lives in the terror attack .

A rescue operation was launched, and reinforcements from police, army, and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot, they said.
