Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati expressed her intention to reassess Muslim representation in future electoral contests after her party failed to secure any seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Despite fielding 35 Muslim candidates, the BSP failed to garner support from the Muslim community, prompting Mayawati to contemplate strategic adjustments in the party’s approach.

Mayawati conveyed her birthday wishes to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, extending greetings on his special day.

In a statement addressing the disappointing electoral outcome, Mayawati emphasised the need for a thorough analysis to discern the underlying causes behind the BSP’s lacklustre performance in Uttar Pradesh. Expressing dismay over the Muslim community’s apparent disengagement with the BSP, she highlighted the challenge of effectively communicating the party’s agenda to this demographic.

“The Muslim community, which is an important part of the Bahujan Samaj Party, is not able to understand the BSP properly despite being given proper representation in the past elections and this time also in the Lok Sabha general elections,” Mayawati remarked, stressing the imperative for cautious deliberation before extending electoral opportunities to the community in the future.

Furthermore, Mayawati expressed gratitude to the Dalit community, particularly the Jatavs, for their unwavering support to the BSP. However, she underscored the need for introspection and strategic realignment in light of the electoral setback.

With the Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, securing a substantial number of Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati acknowledged the evolving political landscape in the state. The BSP’s electoral Alliance with the Samajwadi Party in the 2019 elections yielded ten seats, indicating the potential for collaborative efforts to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ‘s dominance in the region.

Moreover, Mayawati noted the performance of the I.N.D.I Alliance, led by the Samajwadi Party and supported by the Congress, secured significant seats in Uttar Pradesh. This Alliance emerged as a formidable force, challenging the BJP’s stronghold in the state.

In addition to concerns about the logistical challenges of the prolonged electoral process, Mayawati advocated for a streamlined approach to minimize the burden on voters and government personnel involved in election duties.
